Ive just purchased our new house on the 13th Jan. we're not living there as it needs a lot of work and don't see us moving in till April. The house has been empty for some time as the previous owner had died and it had to go through probate etc. I contacted the council today to notify them of the new ownership and they have informed me that I will have to pay the tax till from this date. When asked about being excempt due to not living there they said I won't, get that benefit as its been empty for so long!

That sounds good. Does it matter that the house has been unoccupied for about 1-2years previous? [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Can't help you on this one Rob, we don't pay council tax here and when we get our independence we won't have to pay any income tax either....win win |

So how's your country going to thrive without any tax ? I'm baffled as to how that's gonna work as I'm sure that means we will no longer be footing the bill for your university fees your health care etc etc

The fact that the property has been empty for 1-2 years adds to your case as it definitely needs work doing to it.

Alex Salmond is a fantastic necromancer, I'm sure he will manage to wave his magic wand and we will all be wealthy... |

And when we finally get our oil back and petrol is reduced to £2.00 a gallon we will be charging you southerners each time you cross the border to fill up ... |

Think of all the money we will make charging a tenner a pop for every Englishman crossing the borders into Scotland, whisky will be a fiver a bottle for Scots and £50 for the rest of the world....I can see this working rather well.

Well if we keep the oil then that will be the only way you will warm up and it will have to be a log fire "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

You can keep all the oil, we'll just burn everything south of Hadrian's Wall to keep us warm |
