Hi all - having just got rid of my wires P38 for A FORD KUGA I now need to get a tow bar for either hers or mine. preferably mine (although I don't tow much) but have a small trailer that we use for the "Tip run" every so often.

I need a small profile one as I don't have much length in the garage for it to be sticking out the back too far or a removable one.

Where's the best place to look and at what. Don't want to spend too much as we don't use it that often. Will I need just a tow ball (i.e. does the FF already have the gubbins underneath and I assume electric harness is already routed and just need plugging in.??

The towbar
The electrics

the electrics is a loom plus a few ECU boxes which simply plug into existing connectors around the rear boot area of the car. Its a fairly simple thing to fit. I got mine directly from the dealer a few years around ... was about the same price as online places, so I figured better to get it from LR direct to know it would work without issue.

the towbar can be had directly from LR ( £££ ), or from other manufacturers onine ( less £££, more like ££ ) I have a witter one which is fixed and does stick out a bit. Westfalia do a removable towbar similar to the LR one. Google them online for the best deals. Fitting them is not horrendous and can be done at home without too much fuss. I had to remove the rear bumper. Sounds daunting but it wasn't that bad and done in an afternoon from start to finish.

Unbfortunately, there is no cheapo cheapo option ... the car is rated to tow 3.5ton, so anything you get for the RR is going to be made to meet that spec ... even it is only a basic trailer on the back.

I do sometimes wish I had gone for a removable one ... it does stick out and I notice it when i'm not towing. V8 or else ...

www.pfjones.co.uk do a range of options for towbars (inc the OE Westfalia model) as I couldnt stomach the £££ for an OE one, just so I could carry a bike on the back cheers

Towing Armature (to suit your model year)
Towing electrics
Towing ECU (not sold with the electrics)
Tow ball of choice (detachable or multi height)

If you PM Dan he'll get you a good price. Plenty of third party ones available but I;d recommend you use the dedicated GENUINE electrics for the few extra quid they cost. Graham

My last L322 was towbar-less. eBay is your friend.

There are often complete sets advertised for around £250.

These are the last prices I paid:

Towing Armature (to suit your model year) - £50
Towing electrics - £25
Towing ECU (not sold with the electrics) - £65
Tow ball of choice (detachable or multi height) - Multi-height, Home-made.

If you need something instantly then you will have to buy from a dealer or equiv. If you dont mind waiting a few weeks then set a favourite search going on eBay and buy the bits separately.

just to be clear - if I buy the OE Westfalia dedicated electrics kit - 7 pin/£100 ish do I still need to buy the "towing ECU" for £65 as well ? or does this come with the electrics and you only need it if you buy the cheaper aftermarket non dedicated electrics kit ?

Ive read the Westfalia manual and it refers to a "tow control unit" but dosent say you need to buy one....

You need the control unit as well
£100 is steep for the electrics. My 12s/n sockets and cable from Sam were a lot less than that

towequipe is the cheapest normally, they sell westfalia removable kits (they manufacture them for Land Rover) at around half the price of the Stealers and they come with the holder in the boot and everything you get in a Land Rover box...

I had the armature, twin electrics, towing module all supplied and fitted at the dealer for £523.61 inc Vat. Not bad I thought.

Picked up the multi height ball on eBay for £65.00 Current MY2020
