My mate has an 05 Vogue WITH rain sensor but WITHOUT auto lights. Odd I know...

Not odd at all.

Auto lights were 55 plate+

I always thought they were part of the same sensor. I can't see any difference between the windscreen sensor on my car to their 05...

02-55 rain sensor only (option on SE/HSE, Standard on Vogue)
55-present rain + Light (Light standard rain optional on SE/HSE)

Wasn't disputing your knowledge, Dan Thumbs Up

Just more thought that visually it looked the same and wondered if it was merely software?

There is an extra sensor in there. Although the housing remained the same.

There is a thread here somewhere about upgrading from rain sensor only to Rain & Auto Lights. One needs the new sensor, new light switch (with A setting) and a new LCM (light control module) which is the most expensive and most difficult to get right part.

ok took the rain sensor surround off then removed the mirror followed by the rain sensor, disconected the multi plug from the rain sensor and tested the wipers they now work on intermittent so it looks like my rain sensor is shot
the sensor does unclip off but the 2 lenses remain bonded to the windscreen therefore i will try a sensor replacement but if the lens are at fault then i will only replace them if the windscreen needs replacing , i am not that deperate to have auto wipers they work intermittent now so no real issue 1990 3.5 v8 defender

If it's a 2004 without auto lights then chances are it does not have auto wipers either. Mine didn't until I bought the sensors and new LCM (for the lights)

Easy way to check is to look from the outside at the rear view mirror base. You will see the sensor below it if it has them. There is a thread with pics but can't find it right now.

Edit look here (http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic4836.html) - 9th post down by SteveMFR

Could you tell me what I might need to upgrade my 04 to auto lights and wipers?

I did this on my 54 plate a way back

Essentially you need to replace the Light Control Module (LCM) - I went with a used one but you get a dot next to the mileage displaye don the dash to advice of a non matched module

You will also need the updated sensor inside the rear view mirror base on the windscreen - I can't remember if I needed a new screen for the sensor to work correctly but I needed one anyway (£75 insurance xs job)

Just thinking back, you might also need an updated light switch that has the auto setting - but I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along soon to help out on that one Ash

In fact - See here - https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic4836....p;start=30 - page 3 - second from bottom post - I listed out all the parts with part numbers that you need to do this mod.

The intermittent wipers on my 08 RRSC do not work. Installed new sensor and no luck. Took to dealer and they could not get working. They blamed my non LR replacement windshield. Windshield installation place they recommended laughed at them as LR does not make its own windshields. Living without intermittent wipers.

Hi Ash,
I forgot to ask are the wipers full auto or does it use the intermittent function?
