I've offset my running costs by getting one of the cheapest cars to run - a Panda diesel. You can laugh all you want, but think about it -
65mpg / £30 road tax / GP2 ins / No cam belt / £30 for a decent tyre & utterly bomb proof

All the above makes the FF even more enjoyable to own & run.

To be honest, my car's been a peach in the last 15 mths of ownership and I bought it with (relatively) high miles.

They're not all bad 'uns !

Merry Chrimbo to all !

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

I pay £1.219 p/l for mine but am cheesed off that tax and the RFL and so on don't actually contribute to making the roads better as that would help the cars last longer(less suspension component wear) and also make for a more economical vehicle, as newer tarmac tends to be less aggressive against tyres so less wear on them and slightly better MPG.

At the end of the day if you can, buy some small cheap diesel using banger-nomics, to get you to work and back and use the FFRR the rest of the time. Something in the £300 bracket should do it but work out how much it would cost long haul for a year or so, and then see if you would make that saving back, and then some by not running the ffrr on much worse economy...

Looks like I'm in for a new tyre! AA just came and left without being able to get enough air in the tyre to get it 1/4 mile home! They tried their 'green slime', but it seems like there's a split on the inside edge of the tyre. Bl***y potholes. Still serves me right for taking the little lanes round our way instead of the slightly more made up roads!

So fun and games tomorrow collecting and fitting my spare, and then sourcing a new tyre! All part of the pain and pleasure of FFRR ownership!

boz -

(Not sure what size you need?)
I have a spare Continental 255/50/20 (used even tread 7mm) available if you struggle to find a tyre Wink

Sorry to hear you guys are being ripped off by your government. Running cost over here is cheap, even full comprehensive insurance (I do get a good deal as insurance is on company discount) is not expensive. Petrol still dirt cheap until they cut fuel subsidy here (if they do) but even then prices are not expected to skyrocket straight away. Diesel is over 2 times more expensive here (145 Naira as opposed to 65 per litre)

As for repairs, been very lucky sofar. Only a few minor things to be fixed and parts from Holland are very reasonable in price (only filter kit/fluid for the gearbox was a lot cheaper in the UK). Even my tires (Nexen Roadian) from Germany were almost the same price as the best UK prices I have seen quoted on here. The free delivery to our logistics place in Holland made it a great deal for me (can't find these tires here and that is maybe better as well Smile).

So no complaints (yet) from me Smile
Best wishes for X-mas and New Year to all, many cheap and trouble free miles for all of you ! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Sure it stings a little, but I think it's important to keep in mind that all these exorbitant taxes are an absolute necessity if we are to maintain all those over-inflated, corrupt and costly public institutions at the level we currently do, for example, Public Sector pensions, The Welfare State, MP's and their Expenses, Local Government, the Police and so on.

So have a little heart this time of year. What on earth would these parasites do over Christmas if they didn't continue to milk the public purse? The Salvation Army would never be able to cope !!

Just the small amount of 70% tax on fuel, the barely noticeable 40% income tax, the positively cheap £465 road fund license and the paltry 20% VAT........are these really too much to pay so we can keep all those mentioned above in a thoroughly well deserved free life of luxury? And all while they work so hard to ensure there is no public money left to equip our brave troops properly?

Merry Christmas everyone. Whistle

Bah bleedin' humbug. Evil or Very Mad

Guys my heart bleeds for you all. I pay tax at 56% on my earnings .Our goverment have just seen fit to increase road tax for my FFRR from Euro 1560 to 1666 for 2012 . Add this to an increase in diesel and from Jan a VAT increase of 2% to 23%. So next time your fretting over having to pay £400 road tax have a thought for poor Googsy and thank how lucky you are ! Dave, if I've interpreted what you wrote correctly (punctuation / grammar helps...), then what you've done is purchased a RR, dumped it because of probs, and purchased another RR - albeit in a different body. The X5 and RR were developed together and they share more than a few bits and systems.

You purchased a bum RR and had better luck with the other body style.
