problems problems .problems

I made a post about this before but since then I haven't made any progress really so posting again.

The track rod ends were changed for the MOT on my 2004 RR vogue. The batt was run flat. Since then I have had a bunch of lights and messages on the lcd display. ABS light, traction control, Air Suspension inactive. I tried disconnecting the battery for a few hours as was recommended by a few members on here. It didn't sort it so tonight I have disconnected the battery once again and will leave it over night.
My next thought is that it will have something to do with an ABS sensor that may have been damaged during the work around the wheels.

Any thoughts

If the battery went flat while it was in having the track rod ends changed I'd say it is probably done for and needs replacing. I had a similar issue when I first bought mine - battery would easily flatten if the doors were open for any length of time and it wouldn't start after 3 days of sitting around. New battery did the job.

After reconnecting the battery you'll get an air suspension fault and need to reset the steering angle sensor by putting on full lock in both directions. If you haven't been doing this then the "fault" would just stay there because it's actually a result of disconnecting or flattening the battery. In some cases it can be a more permanent fault - only way to tell is to read the fault codes if the reset doesn't work after fitting a new battery.

If this happened immediately after the track rod end was changed it could be the tracking is out causing a steering angle sensor fault.

the battery is good. The car can sit for months and turn over, i know because I work overseas and spend long times away. It doesn't like sitting for hours with the doors open and the stereo playing though Very Happy
I did read before about resetting the steering sensor by full locking. Does it matter what direction it is locked in first and does it need to be held in the hard over position for a period of time before going the other way?

No, it doesn't matter which way first. Just make sure you hit the stop at both sides. And don't need to wait for any specific period of time - just go one way then the other.

cheers, will try again tomorrow.
was fine, no problems before it had the track rod ends done. has to be something to do with the flat batt or the front wheels

If you're after a battery, there are some really good offers here at the moment - http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic9053.html I think they come in at less than £100 (I paid full price the day before the offer Big Cry )

I got one of these http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Land+Rov...amp;000020 and I couldn't believe what a difference it made. It even made the RR seem quicker, but I guess that was in my head Confused

oh i should say that the tracking was done aswell. the steering wheel is skew now and need to be taken off and re-centred, another job i have yet to get round to when it stops raining. Anyone done that? Not looking forward to it with the airbag and electrics and all.

Is the car tracking straight and not pulling? Seems strange that the wheel wasn't squed before but is now? As 47p2 said think it will be the tracking that's done it. Swast had a similar problem and turned out to be the steering sensors. Had his tracking done then the sensors recalibrated and fixed the issue. Something to do with the car thinking it was sliding but sensors not sowing a skid etc and it just shutting systems down as it couldn't work out what was going wrong. Very clever but very annoying. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

the tracking is good. The re-alignment was done after the track rod ends had been changed, this resulted in the skew wheel.
I will pull the wheel off, realign it then do the reset of the sensors.

Sounds like the steering angle sensor - if the wheel is sitting squint, the steering angle sensor will think that the car is driving with some lock on.....whats heppened is that they have possibly just done the front alignment, not a full 4 wheel alignment and just adjusted it from one side or not exactly equal, hence the front alignment may be correct but the car alignment will be out resulting in the wheel being skew. Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather.....

DON"T take the steering wheel off and realign it. Your fault sounds to be the angle sensor is more than the tolerated 12 degrees out and throwing a fault. Take it to someone who does 4 wheel tracking on Range Rovers, they are complicated and someone with knowledge of setting them up properly is the answer............don't use tyre fitting companies.....they haven't a clue.
