Just going out now to collect a new battery. Anything special I should know about when fitting? I believe the bonnet can be lifted higher for access.. How do you do this?

masses of info on this , use the search function, but put the bonnet into service mode and get a stool to stand on.

hi mate, if you check on youtube, you will find a video from powerflow uk or something and they should you how to put it in service mode.

I can tell you from experience that YOU MUST put it in service mode otherwise there is no hope in hell if getting it in, i tried for a good hour without putting the bonnet in service mode (as I diddnt even know there was a service mode) and jarred the bosch 020 battery on my finger, not a pleasent experience to say the least.

Once the bonnet was up, it was literally a 1 min job getting it shoved in at the right angle.

I had no problem getting a new 110AH battery in without setting the bonnet in service mode, just dropped straight in first go.
I did have a few Weetabix beforehand though

Dont forget to wait ten minutes after turning off the engine before changing Battery.

.........and once the battery is fitted turn the steering wheel fully left then full right to set the steering parameters..

Does anyone know if you have to re-enter the head-unit code?
I may get the battery replaced as I know they can play up in the colder months.

...and, my year old one started getting sluggish and euro car parts replaced it with no quibbles at all...

All fitted now - it's never spun over so fast

Not a bad job, all be it a bit of a tight fit I also took the battery lead of where it passes through the bulkhead to the remote '+' terminal. Just gives that little bit extra..

What I did notice when I switched off the engine after fitting the new battery, there was a 'whirring' noise from below / behind the battery tray- similar to what I imagine the FBH to sound like. It seems to go on for about 1 - 2 mins after the engine is turned off .. any ideas

I thought you had to follow this proceedure to disconnect and reconnect the battery because of the pyrotechnic device in the battery +ve cable.

DISCONNECTION:

Turn off the ignition, and remove the key. (Keep the key close by you though, as the alarm may go off and you need to disable it)
Ensure the alarm is disabled.
Wait at least 2 minutes ( I gave it 5) for car systems to shut down such as the SatNav and Fuel Guage
Yes, now you can lift the bonnet and disconnect the Earth terminal (brown lead)
Now wait 10 minutes ( I gave it 20) for the SRS system to shut down. This is important because of what is to follow!
You have a positive lead running to a fitting on the bulkhead in front of the battery, this fitting is used for connecting jump leads. Undo the nut (13mm) at the back, and release the cable, placing out of the way.
Now unclip the cover for the battery terminal nut and undo the nut until loose.
Now unclip and take apart the multiplug which runs to the positive connector.
Now unclip the cover and undo and remove the nut for the battery disconnect system. Lift off the cable and set aside. (This is why item 5 is important, as this thing is designed to explode and break the battery connection in the event of a crash, so it works alongside the SRS)
OK, now you can wiggle and remove the positive connector from the battery terminal.
Battery disconnected!



RECONNECTION:

Refit the battery disconnect lead to the positive connector unit and tighten nut.
Refit the positive connector to the battery terminal and tighten nut.
Reconnect the “jump lead” cable to the bulkhead and tighten the nut.
Reconnect the multiplug.
Reconnect the negative terminal and tighten nut.
Start the engine, and allow systems to fire up and do their thing.
Finally, with the engine running, turn the steering wheel from full LH lock to full RH lock. This resets the DSC so it knows about the steering wheel position.
Hopefully, everything back to normal.
