help

filled up yesterday and have driven 100 miles since - but today fuel gauge dropped suddenly to zero and range is now reading as zero too !!! - but plenty of fuel left in the tank.

is this a common problem or am I just unlucky - will the standard " disconnect battery for 10 mins" trick solve ??


any other suggestions appreciated???

left the car overnight hoping that it would somehow fix itself !!! - but no.

fuel gauge still reading empty and range is zero.

is there a fuse that controls fuel sender that i check ???

Mine ('05 S/C) does this too, usually worse after filling up. My MSV tells me "Fuel Sender 2 Circuit , General Electrical Failure, Circuit short to battery or open (intermittent)" When I get time I'll look at the connector on top of the sender unit, until then use the trip and put in lots of petrol!

I have the car booked in for monday to have it checked out but I want to check the connections to the sender unit myself this weekend just incase its a dodgy connection.

i presume the sender unit is at the top of the tank and will be accessible from within the boot floor - is this correct ??? - any guidance on how to access would be great.

i know the car has saddle tanks, so does this mean it has a sender in each tank, or just one and a pump to keep them balanced ??

If you do a search BBS Spy did a write-up on replacing his fuel pump, this should point you in the right direction. I'll be interested to hear your results,

Monitoring this thread as I have a wonky guage too. Mine reads quarter full and then runs out of fuel. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

It must be a Landrover trait. My SIII used to do this. Of course the fix for that was to just twist the float on the sender to stop it fouling the side of the tank. Sounds electronic on the RR though.

Has anyone had a look at the mechanical side of things to rule it out (ie. float getting fouled etc)?
