I've been getting a little frustrated recently, failing to be able to play music from both my iphone or a USB memory stick, reading around lots of people have intermittent results, but now i've solved the problem.

I have quite a collection of music, and upto this point have been frustrated that i could only add a few MP3 formatted CDs.

I went on to ebay and ordered one of these, 512GB USB drive, it was only £7. For half a Terrabyte.

When it came, it had a virus on it, dont worry, we are going to format it, but to be sure, run a AV check once you have attached it to your computer.

The Rangie only reconises FAT32 file systems, so you need to format your USB drive to FAT32. The only issue is that windows only allows you to format FAT32 systems upto 4GB. I found this handy little utility which gets round that limit. Download and use to format your removable drive. You can get away with a quick format, which only takes a few seconds, a full format would take ages.

Last thing is that the player only seams to recognise mp3, so no ACC, flac or apple files, however, unlike burning a mp3 CD, the system does support a directory structure, so copy them accross.

It took around 5 hours to copy all of my music over, but adding it to the car it works a treat. __________________

I know! I come from the days of c90s, and remember paying hundreds for my first 20Mb (I do mean megabyte) HD so was waxing lyrical to SWMBO about the size of this sub stick, but she couldn't care less.

It's good though 'cos it doesn't stick out in the glove compartment to get broke off. __________________

Just a word of warning with these to good to be true prices on memory. In my experience they look to be the advertised size, ie 512gb when checked on a pc but they will be a fraction of that in reality. They will work, look to load loads of stuff then fail in short time.

As wayneg says I would seriously doubt it is 512gb. Sorry to put a damper on the party.

I have my own data recovery business so I see plenty of fakes.

Fine for storing none critical data ie you have a backup elsewhere but you will reach a critical volume say 32gb after which the device will corrupt the data on it or simply not work anymore.

You can check the device yourself in any free disk editor Howard

Well, mine is 499Gb when formatted, and I have 135GB of music on there and it working fine.

Would I use it for critical data? No chance, but for music in the car, for seven quid, do you care? __________________
