Fog lights

I am VERY lazy so my lights are always on auto. However, in the recent fog I tried to turn on the fog lights with no success. On my BMW I could still select fog lights in auto mode, however, on my FFRR it doesn't work unless I turn the dial to 'On'. Makes it fairly dangerous in my mind as you either have pull up in fog to turn it to 'On' OR I continue to drive and turn it to 'On'.

Is this the way it should be or have I found another fault?

Don't have any answer, on my previous VW Touareg, it was the same, no fog light in auto mode.

But my interrogation is about the auto mode you are talking, does it mean lights swithes on automatically when its dark ?
Is that an original option ? I read you have an MY04, and I thought it was not possible on this MY FF

It is an original option and the handbook reads:

Automatic control lamps

With the rotary master switch in position ‘4’ and
starter switch in position ‘ll’, the side lamps,
low beam headlamps and license plate lamps
will illuminate automatically when the ambient
light falls below a pre-defined level.
All of the lamps will go out when the ambient
light rises above that level.

Not sure when they came in, but whilst mine is a 54 plate I believe mine is a MY2005.

you will find that the fog lamps will not work in auto mode as this will mean you would be driving around at night with them on regardless if there is fog or not, its illegal to drive around with them on, you will have mr police man stop and give you a ticking off.. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

I'm surprised, bearing in mind the BMW influence at the time, that it doesn't do the same as my old car! Oh well, at least I know it's not a fault!!
