Electronic Parking Brake

on my MY2012 Dealer told me to just drive off & the parking brake releases automatically.
That it does, but there's quite a difinitive bump as it unlocks and releases.

Anyone else do this, or is it best to release the brake by pressing the lever down before setting off ?

I've been doing the latter as it then doesn't give any bump or noise. I just don't like the feel of putting pressure on something 'cause one day it might just go snap !

Not my problem right now with 3 year warranty, but i'd rather not give it hard work if it doesn't need it and what's the hardship of pressing on the lever..... Rolling Eyes .

I used to drive a D3 through work and it had an electronic parking brake. That's how LR experience centre taught me to drive it!

Hope that reassures. If not, maybe someone will be along with knowledge of potential damage it may cause.

I was told by my dealer the opposite. Never never do this as it causes a strain and after a while, it knackers it. Simply press down on the parking brake before you go. Was also told this by LRE.

Additionally, another lazy tip. When pulling up in Drive or Reverse to park, simply engage the parking brake and press the start/stop button. Car automatically shifts dial to Park. Obviously this is TDV8 4.4 only.

I've just read my manual that states the ability to drive away with the EPB on an it will release. I was also told by the dealer that this is OK too. Personally I press the EPB button off before just in case...it can make a bit of a clunk and just not worth the risk.

I like the lazy tip... Current MY2020

Had a hire car (a crappy Renault Scenic) this weekend when visiting the daughter in Scotland. It had an EPB which proved far superior to the one in my Rangie. As the car was manual and the EPB was a bit difficult to judge, hill starts were a bit difficult. Therefore, I started to leave the EPB on and just go. No clonk - just a smooth departure.

The car also had an interesting feature - the cruise control could be switched to become a speed limiter. So going through an average speed camera controlled roadworks on the A90, I could set it to 42mph and know I couldn't go faster.

Can't help with the current problem, BUT when I did my LRE day we were shown that Upton 70mph if you pull the EPB the car will do the fastest and shortest emergency stop! Nice little trick. Not sure if this is in any manuals. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]
