Squeaking rear suspension

My FFRR has developed a loud squeak which is coming from the rear Suspension:(

I will call the dealership tomorrow and get it booked in, fingers crossed the LR extended warranty will cover it.

This has been covered a bazillion times before. The rubber bushes are worn and need replacing. They wont be covered under warranty I'm afraid as they are "worn"

If they do "fix" the problem then the dealer will spray them with some silicone spray to make them quiet, then they will just fall off one day Thumbs Up

Mine does this, I have pin pointed the bush and sprayed it with silicone for now. I have priced up the bush in question and it is £8.20, but I suspect the labour to change it will be high. Reformed

Hi Guys,

Cambridge LR investigated the squeak today and have identified the source of the squeak as the hand brake cable rubbing on the cable guide. Evidently there is a rubber grommet thats cable passes through and this rubber part has become brittle with age.
They have lubricated the cable and rubber guide and the squeak has gone for now.

I'm guessing it's an easy job to replace these rubber guides when changing the handbrake cable, so I may do this job my self when the squeak returns.

The Grommet part numbers are LRSPW000010 and LRSPW000020.

Cheers,

Justin

Number 16 in the picture below. Easy enough when the cable has been removed. You could pull the cable to one side of the bracket number 17 and wrap lots of electrical tape around it for the time being

The tape idea sounds like a good suggestion, although as my handbrake is rubbish it's probably worth changing the cable anyway.

When I first apply the handbrake, the leaver comes up quite high, if I then release it, it self adjusts and the travel reduces by about a third on the second pull. Is this likely to be a problem with the self adjusting mechanism, or do you think a new cable will fix this?

The cables are pretty robust and the self adjuster at the bottom of the lever will take up any slack unless the cable is stretched to the extremities of its capabilities.

You could remove the wheels and adjust the adjuster within the drum, however if that doesn't work then you could possibly need a new set of handbrake shoes.

I've already adjusted the handbrake adjuster as far as it will go, so I guess I need new shoes and a new cable?

I heard a creaking sound when I was towing the caravan home yesterday. Didn't do it on the way to Wales, but it drove me mad on the way home!
It did this a couple of years ago over Christmas. It went away when the weather warmed up.
Time to get underneath I think! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Mine does this, and by pressing the + button on the right side of the steering wheel I managed to fix it from inside the car@
