BUYING ADVICE

New to FFRR forum as just moved over from D3 forum.

Looking at getting a TDV8 Vogue SE seen a few but out of my £26,000.00 price range at the moment for 1 owner low miles but just found one 2007 80,000 miles 3 owner. Should I hold out for lower miles and less owners ?

Any advice appreciated, also any tips on what to look for on TDV8.

Thanks in advance...Simon

I'm no expert on TDV8's, being an S/C owner, however from what I've read, I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage, in fact a car which has done more motorway miles might be a better bet than one which has pottered around locally, and it will certainly be better value.

I guess it depends how long you're going to keep it, and how many miles you will be doing. If it's going to be a car you'll keep long term, then forget about mileage.

I would focus purely on getting the car you want in as good condition as possible, and maybe look at getting Land Rover Approved Used.

Also, depending on the exact spec you want, maybe consider an HSE. Many people automatically discount them, but when you look at the exact spec on an HSE, it may have everything you want, and just provide bette value.

Just noticed you're looking for a Vogue SE, so I guess spec is pretty important to you, which to me would indicate that you need to be realistic about your budget, and if you're going for spec, be prepared to buy a higher mileage car. 80k on one of these is just run in! So go on spec, condition, maybe warranty etc.

Edit, just did a quick search, how about this one, 67k for under £25k

Or if you really want low mileage, how about this one, would need some hard haggling but only 39k miles:

I've owned LR verhicles for very nearly 30 years now - always older ones - except for a couple of exceptions. I've come to the conclusion that it takes about 80,000 miles to make them reliable. By 80k you know if it's a good one. In the case of the 4.6V8 for example, if it hadn't lunched its cylinder liners by then, it probably wasn't going to, with the l322 if it gets to 80k with its original gearbox it's probably OK or else had a decent new one fitted!

80k is the ideal buying point in my opinion - plenty of depreciation has occurred and hopefully most of the niggles and faults have been ironed out.
