Should I go or should I stay

Actually "Stick or Twist" might be a better title as I'll be staying with Range Rovers. I've got the urge to buy a newer Range Rover and the L460 hasn't grown on me enough yet. So I've been looking at a 2018 SVO 5.0L petrol because my current diesel isn't ideal for the short journeys SWMBO requires me to do (the local Tesco is only 2 miles away) and although I am tempted by a P400e I've had the 5.0L petrol before and liked it apart from having to get fuel constantly (but Tesco has a filling station). It seems I would have to swap mine and add £40k but £40k buys a lot of fixes (just recently had the rear brakes done) and I need to get the parking sensors fixed, the fridge/cooler has never worked and the last MOT said the rear ACE pipes were corroded. So about £5ks worth of repairs and I do like this car so should I Stick or Twist?. New car would probably have 5 years and 100,000 miles advantage over existing car, not bothered about the fridge. Geoff

Shocked Seems a shed load of money for a 2018, already 7-year-old car?!!!
Ours has “shed” probably £25K value in 3 years, -it’s a Mugs Game, FFRR ownership, I don’t really need to tell our brothers on here that, of course, sorry Embarassed
If your current car needs <£10K spent and has no subframe-to-body corrosion issues, stick.
Or, maybe consider a 2017 FFRR in the £20K-£30K ball-park as a kind of compromise?

You can get into a much younger, low-mileage L405 for only about £20K if I’m reading things right, so why spend double that, to lose it in depreciation over 2-3 years?

Much depends on personal circumstances of course……. Whistle “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Thanks all
I now have a plan I'll wait a bit until the L460 grows on me and get one, in the meantime I'll keep the L405 (2013) I have and like on the road a bit longer and have a few repairs done. When there are more available I should be able to find a L460 with deployable towbar and steps. I use both regularly and have had no trouble.

I do find it a bit disappointing that this beauty is only worth £10k

Laughing You're in exactly the same place as me.... I've been contemplating a change and probably to a 5L, but in the end I'm back to 'one more year' with my 2013 SDV8 that's worth a depressingly low amount of money....

It’s a good thought but I’ve always thought YOLO a bit selfish I want to leave as much as possible to my kids - but then again I could leave them an L460 which of course wouldn’t attract IHT 😀 Geoff

Nice thought but unless you put the car in their name, then, when the Solicitor does probate and all your assets (including cars) are listed, if it takes it over the 325K (650K) if your missus dies before you, then they'll pay tax.

You'll need to put it in one of their names beforehand!

So I buy now for £100k car will only be worth £10k when I die so we are back with YOLO I’m saving the kids £90 k and enjoying the deprec while I live, in fact the longer I live the more they save and in the meantime I’m enjoying being Mr Toad win-win Geoff

Mine renews in April, so I got a nice email from the DVLA advising me that they'd be taking £710 from my account Censored
