DIY smoke detection

Hi

I prefer to do something myself where possible and am currently trying to identify the cause of restricted performance at higher revs.

I had a leak where the air intake joins the throttle body which is now fixed thanks 100% to FFRR.

I am going to replace the MAP and both MAF sensors, at 13 years old they have served the car well.

I can buy a very well rated smoke test machine on Amazon for £140 which is likely similar to what it would cost me for one test at a garage.

Has anyone here done their own smoke tests and if so could you be kind enough to point a beginner in the right direction.

I have zero oil usage, zero smoke and tye car purrs so I am confident I have a air leak somewhere, a bad sensor or a sticking valve of some sort.

Thanks 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Santorini black ivory leather

I made a smoke tester from some drain pipe fittings which uses 12v and an airline from our compressor.

I'll try and find some pictures of it later. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather
