SDV8 Engine removal with torque converter attached?

Hello experts

I have a SDV8 with a damaged engine. The engine doesn't turn over, assuming it's a conrod or crank failure.

I plan to remove the engine and leave the transmission in place as I'll be working without a 4 post lift. I've been encouraged by the 'All I want for Christmas is a new engine' post by 4RRS. (Great post, thank you for the pictures)

The question - Has anyone removed the engine with the torque converter attached? As I can't rotate the engine I can't get to the torque converter bolts.

Thoughts much appreciated.

I've never done it on an SDV8 but I have on other cars.

In theory, as long as you have space in front of the engine to slide it forward the depth of the torque converter then you should be able to get it out.

The fun bit will be separating it from the flywheel.

I think you'Ill struggle to pull the engine far enough forward to clear the torque convertor, remove the front diff and I'd say it would be do-able. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

There's a lot that can come away from the front of the engine bay, which would probably give space. Once you've removed the front bumper, the panel where the bonnet closes on to, the radiator and aircon condenser there's probably not much more in the way. You have to do a lot of this just to change the aircon condenser, and I guess removing the oil cooler, condenser, radiator/shrouds etc. is not that much more work.
