Hi

I've had many FFRR and Disco's all with various versions of the 3.0 engine and haven't had any issues with any of them engine-wise. The Euro engines are very smooth, quick and economical (true 30mpg over all journeys, including under 10 miles)

I've always had SE versions with a spec good enough for me, most of which I don't use anyway! HUD is definitely worth having though. When the L405 first came out most reviews said the 3.0 SE was the "sweet spot" of the range. My 21.5MY is so good I wouldn't change for a L406 as I don't think it's worth the money at £125k for the same spec car.

What do you mean by HUD?

HUD means Head Up Display

Also not a single issue with any engine. I also have friends who have the same engines in Disco's and FFRR's and none of them have had any problems at all. Thumbs Up All LR cars from 1984

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Vogue SDV8 Santorini Black

Not got any stats to say it is more or less than 5%.

I know a good independent and asked him how many 3.0 he sees with the crank bearing problem. His answer was "not that many".

I do know 2 people, both with Discos, that had the issue. One did admit that the car had been chipped and that might have had an effect, and the other didn't seem to have any reason (seemingly well maintained and only done 50k, though he was the 2nd owner). Equally, I also know loads of others with the 3.0 engine that have never had any problem. Current:

My concern with the 3.0 is that the crank can fail at any time without warning for no apparent reason. Even if only a tiny % fail then IF you’re unlucky the cost of repair will render a 10 year old car scrap unless you’re handy with the spanner’s.
On the plus side I would guess that most of those that are going to fail probably have by now?
