I've read somewhere that you can fit the later steering wheel buttons to the pre facelift with a new loom for them...

Can anyone confirm this and possibly give a link for the loom...

Any other useful info please pipe up....

Cheers.. Pete

Can definitely be done. Have seen YouTuber's doing it to their cars.

Matt Armstrong comes to mind when he repaired an L405. From memory, his didn't work right but it was because he's skipped a step during the installation. I think the side lights needed to be on when they were plugged in or something like that. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Thanks Stan and David...

From what I can tell in 2017 they upgraded the network from a CANBUS to a FLEXRAYBUS so the later buttons can't talk to the car, there is a loom available in the US but it is over $500 Shocked Shocked

There must be someone doing it cheaper....!!

Cheers Pete

I wouldn’t bother - I much preferred the earlier steering wheel buttons which are a more positive click. The new type are dreadful and feel cheap and nasty - plus you knew when you had activated the button - the new type are not consistent and seem to need varying amounts of pressure.

Ditto the door mirror switches. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Has anyone got any experience of just wiping the old sticky stuff of with Isopropyl rather than what seems a risky venture to Ali Express or an expensive venture to JLR? Geoff

Vogue, I'm glad you said that, that's the problem with the aftermarket ones I bought, they don't work each press of the button, just sometimes.... anyway I'm going back to the old ones and I'll forget about the new ones. Cheers Thumbs Up

Geoff

Funnily enough Amazon are bring me some 99.9% isopropyl alcohol today and I'm going to have a go at the old ones, which to be fare aren't that bad... I'll let you know... Thumbs Up Pete

This ^ sounds exactly like my genuine factory buttons - I positively hate them - the original pre-facelift switches were far better !

If I’m brutally honest I also prefer the look of the pre facelift seats - yes the new seats are more comfortable and a bit bigger - but the design certainly does not look as exclusive 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

#3.

I too had considered this “upgrade” but after seeing some hi-res pictures, decided the new ones looked too shiny, cheap and plasticky, seems the performance isn’t much better either. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
