4.4 TDV8 80k miles - Engine Knock videos - first impressions

Recently bought L322 62 plate Westminster 4.4 TDV8

Has now developed a rather angry sounding knock as per attached videos.
80k miles - good history.

Car is now off the road and ready for diagnosis - anyone shed any light on first impressions from the sound, one of the videos revs the car to show how it effects the sound.

Aware this is almost asking the impossible but only asking for opinions out of interest, it will go in for full diagnosis and I’ll update on the case.

Many thanks for the interest,
Aaron

From the video it certainly sounds like the OS bank is noisier than the NS bank.

I'm guessing that 1 or more cylinders isn't firing (not sure of the diesel term), could be an injector or injector wiring.

It should be throwing out some alarm codes for something like that to ID that.

Not experienced it on my Westie, but the forum gurus should be able to narrow that down in a flash.

Good Luck.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I think you’re correct with that, but my mechanical knowledge only went so far,

I have the diagnostics from an initial OBD plug in somewhere, I’ll dig it out and add it also if that may be a clue to somebody,

Thanks again,

Aaron
