Front LED Indicators in Headlights not working correctly

Hi Guys,

Before Xmas my OSF LED indicator in the headlight started working intermittently, flashing a couple of times then nothing every time I turned right.

I checked the electrical connector to the headlight unit.

After that it has been working ok again, until yesterday. Now intermittent again.

Have any of you had this problem or know what the cause may be.

Thanks -----------------------

The supply to the parker LEDs for both headlamps is PWM from a single wire from the BCM, with a solder joint for the split, then through a connector for each side (C2411/C2412 for LHS) nearly 2m of wire back from the headlamp connector. I suspect a poor connection at connector pair C2411/C2412 due to moisture and only a very small current ever passing through those terminals. Most of the wires at the headlamp connector pass through the connector pair so it might not be too difficult to find the connectors, although a connector location diagram would be very useful.
C2411/C2412 has at least 43 wires so is a major connector pair.

Thanks JMC for the interesting info. Problem is it’s the indicator so I cannot use a temporary supply like you.

I assume it is just a bad connection, so will have to find the fuses and relays as well.

Not looking forward to doing it in this weather! -----------------------

Pin 3 of the headlamp connector should have full 12V on and off at blinker speed. It powers a LED module inside the assembly. There isn't a fuse as it is switched on and off by a transistor (FET) in the central junction box.

GraemeS thanks for info. I will check when weather improves from -8C.

Did wonder if it may be the LED indicator module in headlamp that may need replacing or the bulb in the small side repeater, as the indicators will start working ok again even when I haven't touched anything. -----------------------

The side repeaters are powered by their respective door modules, which seems very strange but it goes a long way towards explaining why my LED repeaters glow slightly after a door is opened until the vehicle goes back to sleep. Were side repeaters added as an after-thought, possibly not provided on the early L322s?

GraemeS, found what I think is terminal 3 in the connector plug.

It reads around 5 volts when the indicators are turned off and reads around 11/12 volts in time with the rest of the hazard lights flashing on and off.

So it looks like I am getting power to the headlight assembly, so would assume that it is a faulty LED indicator module which is screwed to the headlight unit.

Only problem is I cannot find out which one, as there are 3 screwed to the back of the headlamp unit.

Price of a new one from the dealers is crazy money, so it will have to be a second hand one. -----------------------

Check the voltage at the same pin in the other headlight socket. It should be 12V, not 5V.

The LH wire is blue with green stripe and the RH yellow with purple stripe.

Having not had time to do any more investigating.

I had to take the RR for it's annual MOT test today, dreading it would fail on the OSF indicators.

Guess What, from starting it up, driving it there and all the time through the test, it worked perfectly.

This is the most unpredictable and frustrating vehicle at times, I have owned.

But I would not sell it. -----------------------
