United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Santorini Black

Jay, your knowledge and experience is invaluable here so I totally respect your view on oil additives. Your comments have motivated me to do lots more reading on the subject and may save me money in the future. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Santorini black ivory leather

I wonder if anyone has ever done a chemical analysis of the ZX1 product itself? Just to see what's in it?

Their website states it's "re-engineered hydrocarbon molecules" - I'd be very interested to understand how it's re-engineered and just what that process entails. Engine lubricating oil is already re-engineered isn't it?

Their web-site alone puts me off the stuff.

For example: MOT test emissions results taken almost 1 year apart to demonstrate reductions in CO, for example. Perhaps the car in question (a Corsa) had an air filter change in the intervening 11 months, or the test equipment / testing station wasn't the same?

Rather unbelievably, on one page of their rather sprawling web-site they actually state that their product is not associated whatsoever with "Snake Oil"! Shocked Laughing

Good luck to them if they can sell this stuff, but it wouldn't be going anywhere near the crankcase of my vehicles. Just personal choice.

My engine longevity programme will continue to be regular 6 monthly oil changes using quality oil. I'll leave the definitely-not-'Snake Oil' products for someone else to use! 1992 RR Classic 3.9 efi Vogue

On the subject of the original question about turbos - use them, don't buy a range rover and then try to make a 4.4v8 do 40+mpg

on the subject of oil I'll add my 2p

Manufacturer will specify oil additives for engines BUT it's already in the oil you buy, do your next service on halfords homebrand 5w30 and do a few 1000miles with it....you'll soon have some faults popping up, probably starting with the DPF as the oil will have a high SAPS content.

Do your next service with the correct spec oil for the engine eg 4.4sdv8 5w30 C1 oil and the additives etc are already in it and you should be trouble free.

The thing that kills modern engines is all the emissions crap they put on them. Engines like to breath, restricting them and force feeding them their own exhaust gases doesn't do them any good.

Take the intake off a modern engine and compare it to a similar pre EGR engine and compare the carbon build up.

I've seen some engines to the point where the manifolds have that much carbon in them they've blocked up and the car won't start.

If you think I'm talking out of my arse go pull your MAP sensor out and look how much Censored is on it, give it a good clean with some carb cleaner and see the difference, I always did this as part of my services as my short commute accelerated the build up. Current
