I got such derisory offers for mine I decided to keep it (was going to buy a new one), having it detailed at the moment and will upgrade the infotainment system ASAP. Mine is higher mileage, the fridge doesn't work (it never has), it has RSE, deployable steps and deployable towbar. Also it's an AB not an SE but I don't think that makes a difference. So I'll spend a couple of £k to keep me going for another year or so. Geoff

I’ve got the same car albeit with 88k miles, and honestly I think you’re being a tad optimistic. I paid a dealer £19,500 in February and within a few months I think it was probably worth £16k if I was lucky. Now, I dread to think. Cars on AT are not moving quickly.

And a dealer will only give you trade price for it?

A trade in/dealer price will be trade value, not the same as what they retail them for.

Check Cap HPI for an estimate of your trade in value, baring in mind my 2017 was valued around £20k trade recently, I’d harbour a guess that £16k is not bad at all. Market is not what it was in 2022 and these depreciate hard, not ignoring the fact of highly publicised insurance premiums has killed the demand for them and thus, values down

If you want that kind of money for it you will need to sell privately and I would suggest this site is probably your best option of realising what you think it’s worth.

To the trade its a £12k to £13k car as they will factor in what they need as depending on the dealer it may go straight to auction where cars of this age are just breaking through that value at best.

Realistically dealers will want at least a £5k mark up on a 11 year old Range River. Unfortunately you have to look at the running costs …road Tax £710, insurance ?????? But probably near £1,000. At that age is it a Euro 5 soecification , if so it limits the market place no big cities with current and proposed car charging schemes.
Dealer may have to do some refurbishment….as we all know a set of new tyres is £1k for a decent spec.
Then the dreaded VAT, on a straight £5k profit they would have to pay £833 vat. Then of course either pay for a warranty or underwrite any short term repairs themselves.
Probably best to sell privately and fund a 12 month warranty to aid the sale.
Sorry to be negative but that is where the market is £10k probably reflects a few bad experiences by the dealer with previous cars… WBAC, Motorway etc will give you a feel for where the market price is. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

I have just agreed to P/X mine with 96k. Managed to get 12k for it from the garage which I will take as a win, still painful but saves alot of potential hassle with private buyers and is much better than WBAC. 2013 SDV8 4.4 Vogue SE Aintree

I have a BCA account and monitor L405 prices, both the CAP ‘clean’ and actual sold prices - based on these I’m afraid I’d have to agree with the various comments above if considering part-ex’ing or selling in some form to the trade.

2015/ 2016 models are often selling for low teens now on BCA, albeit more often than not with bodywork and interior trim issues at least. Jonathan

One of our customers is selling this. Cropped it to hide any info, so as not to break any rules etc. And I know it's also a Sport, but they are much the same price wise

14MY, 96k miles, full history, belts done, new tyres, new rear discs/pads/calipers/motors

Agreed, if you know what to look for there are some good deals to be had.

Trade in values closely follow car auction prices. And auction prices for L405's dropped to record lows a few months back, when the combined effect of the expanded ULEZ zone as well as massively rising RR insurance costs were hitting owner's pockets.

I watch the auctions carefully, and in fairness L405 prices have recently bounced back a little. But a dealer can easily buy an early L405 (2013/14 plate) for around £10K at auction. So they're not going to offer a great deal more than that for your vehicle on a part-ex basis.

You may get a little more than auction price (CAP) if the dealer is interested in keeping your car to sell themselves, as they can drive it and perform a good inspection of it. I've had dealers pop my part-ex on the ramp and that's been fine with me. That's something the dealer can't do with an auction car, where it's easy even for the trade boys to get burnt! There's also auction fees for them to pay, as well as costs of getting it collected from the auction house, all things that make a nice, tidy trade-in worth keeping and selling on.

Having said that though, I'm sorry to say you've no chance of being offered £16K for it from a dealer in PX. I'd say he's retail it for £19K and expect to make a couple of grand out of it after his prep costs, warranty, overheads, wages, Margin scheme VAT, etc. so you'd likely be offered £12K as a part-ex maximum, and that's factoring in the low mileage of your vehicle.
