Loud squeak in reverse.

I have an extremely loud, constant squeak/squeal when rolling in reverse (no acceleration). Think reverse parking etc.

Recently had my front brakes and discs done but have done around 700 miles before this issue started.

I did have a rotational squeak at the front but that’s disappeared, it was present before the work was done, then disappeared, then came back, and has now gone again.

Also randomly I had white smoke from the front drivers wheel arch after I parked up after a short drive - however this has not been repeated in the last 4/5 drives since it happened.

No idea if these are connected - but my issue right now seems to be just the squeal in reverse!

Perhaps temp / weather (wet weather) has some part to play? Clutching at straws.

Maybe calliper related?

The car drives fine and the alloys / tyres are not hot after driving.

Any ideas let me know.

Cheers. 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

Hi, sounds to me like you may have bent the brake dust shield during the brake refresh so it's catching on the disc, more pronounced when driving backwards could be just the angle it's catching at, or something trapped between disc & shield.

The white smoke, that could just be an oil leak dripping onto the OS header and it's just venting through the arch. does it smell of oil ?

I would say the white smoke is from the fuel burning heater. All depends on the wind direction for where it exits from under the car.

Thanks for the above.

Both issues have not been present of late, but that’s not to say they won’t be back.

Will try to get both checked. 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.
