I had NO IDEA it could be this bad - a £150k car that’s worthless after a few years and no miles.
It should be classed as ‘of unmerchantable quality’ - someone needs to start a legal case (I don’t have the energy Laughing )

Unbelievable, sorry to hear you’ve had the same.

Out of interest, are you happy with the recon? Where’d you get it? I was quoted £17.5 for factory one but that seems A LOT, especially when it could go wrong again.

Thanks Martin.

Best,
Ben

I'd be interested to know how you obtained a LR factory unit as none have been available for nearly 3 years. I'm seeing the last price for a full engine at over 23k.

This was for a 2.0 ltr ingenium engine so I assume availability is quite good.
I was offered a very good px for my FF so jumped in a bit lively.
To be fair and forgetting the atrocious reliability I found the engine ok, lively off the mark, good motorway cruiser and could achieve 50mpg on a steady run. Even manages low 30’s mpg around town.

@Chef45, happy with it so far as it hasn’t broken down Very Happy
Garage in Maidstone done the job. Initially it was diagnosed as timing chain failure by the AA which is why it went to a ‘timing chain specialist’ but investigation proved different.
Garage has had many 2 litre and the V6 3 litre LR’s in for new engines, when I picked mine up they had 3 on the ramps Shocked
On the 2.0 ltr he blames the service intervals which is 20k miles or 2 years. He’s recommended if I keep it I should change the oil every 6 months.
LR do seem to have got themselves in a pickle Whistle

feel for everyone who has had an engine go pop. while I appreciate the numbers overall are probably low, still a nightmare for those affected. At what age did the FFRR start using Ingenium range of engines in the latest L405's ? If these engines are still freely available then at least you have that as an option.

The D350 appeared in the MY21.5 L405 but who knows what electrical changes occurred to cater for the engine.

There will be a failure rate in most engines. Just the nature of things. Make 200,000 of something and a few will go bang…..

When I was looking before Xmas there was still 4.4’s available approved used, not many but a few so obviously not a blanket LR policy. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hello everyone,

I found L405 good runner with the SDV8 engine on ebay co uk today from just £11,000, certainly with lots of miles, but at least honest miles. Would buy the car and rebuild the engine, the rest could easily be sold in parts within a year for a total of £4,000. In Germany, a good SDV8 engine with around 80,000 miles costs around 10,000 GBP. Will be coming to the UK soon when the L405 SDV8 costs around £9,000 and stocking up on my spare parts. I will then preserve and store the engine.
