Where did these come from?

Have had a serious noise coming from offside rear, though it was the disc guard, removed wheel to find these screws rattling around between the disc & guard:

Any ideas where they should be ?

After removal, there is still a scraping noise coming from the same place, all ideas & thoughts greatly appreciated.

They stop the pads from shifting about under braking - sometimes causing squeking - there are holes on the side of the pads where they go in, push the in with pliers and twist to lock them in place. Thumbs Up 2006 MY Autobiography. With 'toys'

They are the pins and springs that hold the handbrake shoes in place. Number 11 and 12 in the picture below.

The scraping noise is caused by the brake shoes rubbing against the disc as the pins are not there to hold the shoes against the backplate. You need to have them fitted as soon as possible before further damage and expense occurs.

You may find the hole in the backplate where the pins go through have corroded and the pins won't stay in place. If this is the case just buy a couple of retainer cups as seen in the picture below and fit them behind the backplate

Right, sounds as though they could have fallen out due to corrosion as there would be no reason to go near these for pad replacement? Do you nee to take the disc off to access the backplate?

If he only changed the pads it will not be his fault, the handbrake shoes have to be accessed by removing the discs.

My bet is the holes on the backplate are corroded Thumbs Up

Fingers crossed, we'll get the use of a lift pre-mot, if not, car off road!
