Has anyone come across this message on the sat nav where it then completely shuts down?

It happens on my 2008 Vogue SE within 1 minute of starting up so it cannot be becuase anything is getting too hot. All other electrics work perfectly.

I found this and hope someone can agree or point me in the right direction!

I've had same problem occur twice now, not straight away but randomly when on journeys.
All infotainment shuts down for couple of minutes then comes back on its own & carrys on with nav still programmed.
I'm due to go in for a MOT & some bits soon so I'll mention it & see what they say. 2011 (MY12) 4.4 TDV8 Vogue

During the Christmas break, I started to experience the same issue



It often happens at start-up and the whole system shuts down - satnav, phone, radio etc. Nothing works, but it doesn't affect driving the car in any other way.

It will typically come back on again after a few miles, but then randomly shuts-down and repeats the cycle. Sometimes the infotainment system stays on for a minute, sometime five or ten minutes. Recently, it stayed on for a hundred miles!! Then it all went off again. Then it all came back on again..... You get the picture.

Interestingly, if the sat-nav has been programmed with a destination, it remains in the memory, so it's not like it's going through a hard reboot.

Been in for a service today and they are scratching their heads. I'm being told they are awaiiting a call back from 'Technical'...... The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

i would guess an an accumulation of dust in the sat nav units (DVD drive in the boot) cooling fan, or the fan has packed up.

More to it than that I fear. Can't be anytyhing to do with cooling fans, as it happens from cold when the ambient temp is zero.

Aye, that'll be £1,300 plus vat and minus guarantee that it'll fix the problem!

its rare but i sometimes have a dim screen when starting up in the cold..my solution was to leave it until a re-start where then the screen would go to full brightness or use voice control to command 'display off' and then 'display on' ..this display on/off would re-energise the screen to full brightness..

try the voice command and see if it makes a difference.. ... - .- -.

Mentioned my fault to dealers when in for event service, they said it needed a software update takes 2 hours & costs £180
Told them not to worry as only happened twice, couple hours later they phoned to say tech went ahead & did it anyway n it fried the module so got it done FoC under warranty  2011 (MY12) 4.4 TDV8 Vogue

Hi all,

First post on here as first problem in 3 weeks of ownership of 2005 Vogue TD6.

My screen is doing this. I start it in the morning, get the screen on and audio for a few seconds then it shuts down.

It will then try and turn on every 5 minutes. Some times it will stay on for a few minutes and then shut down, sometimes it will just cut the audio (the screen stays on) and then start agian - always ending with it shutting down.

It has been doing it for about a week, does not seem to mater if it is cold or hot.

I'm beginning to see a patern with this.......

Today, I left the A/C and heater off for a while. The screen worked as it should from a cold morning start. Was just saying to the Mrs that I wondered if the two were somehow related as I turned-on the A/C. Almost before all the orange lights had appeared on the heater controls, the screen went tits-up with the temp error......

We also noted at this point today, that no matter what we did, there was only hot air coming from the vents, even with both dials turned to cold and the A/C on......

Will test my theory a bit more in the coming days.  The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Ah well, that didn't work....... So much for my 'theory'.

Makes no bloody difference.

Does anyone know where this sensor is in the unit?

Maybe it can just be removed?

Finally had time to look in the boot. Took the cover off the left side and tried to eject the SatNav DVD. No joy. The slider is unlocked and the button is pressed, but the DVD ain't appearing. Tried with ignition off, ignition on and engine running. No difference.

I wonder if these two 'issues' are connected, or am I just being thick about ejecting the DVD?  The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Just wondering if anyone as found out why this happens and the solution, as also having same issue

After months of investigations and trawling the web, it appears that this is not an isolated issue, but it's not particularly common either. The long and short of it is that Denso have an ambient temperature sensor located somewhere on the PCB(s) of the head unit (behind the screen). Problem is that Denso will not provide any information about the PCB design - not even to Land Rover - so we can't pinpoint the troubled component.

The purpose of this sensor is somewhat like that of a fuse. It shuts the system down if it senses an over-heating situation. As with most sensors, they actually cause more trouble than they are there to solve. Without a detailed schematic of the electronics, it's impossible to sort this problem, other than replacing the whole head-unit / display. All for the sake of a 50p component.  The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom
