Towing electrical issue

Fully loaded the trailer, connected up but no electric’s.
Tried two different 13 to 7pin adapters, two different light boards, checked both fuses but still nothing, no indications on dash either.
Tried my reader but no option av.
The tow bar and electrics were professional fitted by previous owner but never issued.
Would I be right in thinking the car needs to be coded for trailer use, especially with led lights.
Is there any way around it as I need to leave at 7 in the morning.
Cheers
John

The electrics should be plug and play for normal trailer, caravan use, but I’m pretty sure they wont work with LED lights.

LED’s normally will work but the car won’t recognise them so you won’t be told that the trailer is indicating. This is caused by the reduced voltage draw compared to a normal bulb.
Checking the trailer electrics fitted to a car is I believe part of the mot test for vehicles thus fitted. Most trailer light issues are earth related hope this he.ps. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

I have this when I connect my caravan, there are bulbs to the caravan, if I leave the engine running when I connect the lights, they don't come on until I turn the car off and then start the car.

Or connect the electrics when then the car is turned off it may work for you. 2017 SDV8 4.4 silicon silver AB

Finally had a bit more time.
The trailer socket on the car is showing 12.9 with the meter, however when i connect the trailer or any adapter there is no power from the socket.
Strange one, i'll take the socket apart next week and try and find whats going on.

Should i have the trailer symbol on the instr panel before starting the engine when the cars doing self check,2016 Autobiography.

Cheers

The 13 pin socket is tested on an MOT, the 7 pin socket is not.

Ok just an update.
Cracked it.
Removed the towing socket and stripped it down completely. All the connections were good but when I took the socket apart the internals clip into the outer part of the socket. One of the clips wasn’t made so when I plugged the trailer lead in it was moving the internals about a couple of mm and was not fully connecting😁
