OEM floor mat hooks confusion

Hi all,

I've a '12 Westie and have bought some new LR OEM floor mats. The car has larger mat hooks that won't fit into the new mat holes, and I'm struggling to work out how to get them out to replace them with the new smaller hooks that came with the new mats. They don't seem to be screwed in, but connected at both the front and back of the hook base.

Can anyone shed any light on how they're affixed?
