I recently booked my L405 SDV8 in for an Oil Service with my local dealer. When booking I quoted the fixed price as listed on LR's own website (£247.4. This was agreed with the person taking the booking.

The service was undertaken yesterday morning and when competed I was handed an invoice for £450!
I let it be known that this was not the agreed price and referred to LR's stated price on their website. There appeared to be some confusion within the admin team at this point and they said they would need to get the parts department to review the charge.

I left the dealership without paying and now awaiting a correct invoice to be emailed to me.

Even at £247 it seems expensive so i may consider undertaking all future oil changes myself. 2019 L405 SDV8 Autobiography

Does it state what work was actually done ?

In general, I'd expect a main dealer to do whatever the schedule says for the age/mileage and not just the oil & filter.

My car didn't need a service as such, I just wanted an interim oil change and requested as such. It's not due for its next service until early next year, based on LR's own maintenance schedules.

£100 in parts and an hours labour ?

I did my first one on mine as the indicator came up & I'm in the middle of nowhere in France for a while. It's the easiest oil change I've ever done on a vehicle.

@Buz1500, as Alistair has said, it’s super simple to DIY, and only about £30-£40 per change once you have the gear, which you will easily get the money back for the first time you do it. There’s loads of info on here to show you what you need o get the oil sucked out & change the filter, plus the WM up above to help you. LR MD’s are a total rip-off, it’s only 1/2hr job, and most of that is standing around waiting for the pump to do its thing. :thumbsup:

Just did my first oil change with a suction pump. Super simple and, even including buying the pump and 36mm socket, was less than £100. Next time it will only be around £60.

Cheapest way I could get C1 5W30 LR oil was Smith & Allen £63.88 for 20L, about £70 delivered. That does 3 fills for my TDV6, plus 2L left over for top-ups (which it never needs). So £40 a time including filter. You will only get 2 fills, but still around £45 a go DIY ( once you have the pump etc).
I already had a compressor so bought the Neilsen 9L vacuum thingy for about £90, a bit slow with my weedy little compressor, but gets the job done in about 20mins. Go for it! :thumbsup:

I don't use the Smith & Allan oil becuase it doesn't have the JLR approval (doesn't mean it's by any way inferior however; just my personal preference).

I use Petronas 5000 FJ which does have the JLR approval. I use the Draper oil extractor every 7,000 miles. Every alternate service is a full service with air filters, pollen filter and fuel filter. JLR made servicing on these cars so easy, that even a full service you can do in 45 minutes (but obviously they won't tell you that).

I guess that’s possibly only really important if folks have a JLR Warranty, rather than 3rd Party.
The difference in price is what approved suppliers had to pay JLR for “Approval”
If it meets the spec, it meets the spec so “Approved” is no better IMHO.
Given my car is 2017, as soon as my C1 5W30 is used up, I plan to switch to C4 5W40 in any case.

I used Petronas last service. The viscosity and ash content are the only important factors with this oil and I don’t need JLR ‘approval’ to assure me that S&A’s C1 has this. Any details of what JLR’s actual testing involves in order to get approval? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Jlr won't do any testing on their approved oils.

Oil co talks to jlr, we would like to be your approved oil supplier, these are the tests were going to carry out, we will pay you x amount to be your approved supplier.

Ie its all marketing .

As long as the spec is met it doesn't matter one jot whose name is on the label
