Worst of the worst case scenario, good used engine from Flying Spares £9.8k inc vat. for Shadow II.

And you don't have the complex 4 x 4 drive train to deal with so I don't see a Rolls costing any more than a fatty in the long term.

Just the Citroenesk syspension system and miles of corrofing pipework.

Especially '84 or earlier cars, I may be interested if I could find a rot free last of the Shadow II in a nice blue.

Well, it didn't take long to conk out. It still didn't start, and nobody local wanted to touch it so I decided to DIY. How complex can 42-year-old electrics be I thought?

I found a Rolls Royce forum and there's a brilliant chap on there who has helped me. Turns out the old Opus ignitions are pants and most people have replaced them with a better electronic one over the years. Mine was original, and faulty. They are £250 from Flying Spares, but a poke about online with the right part number yields one at £120 from the US. Got to test the ohms on the coil and maybe replace that too, so when that stuff arrives, I *might* be wafting again. I am going to add Rolls Royce mechanic to my CV now.
