Number of Demanded Regenerations - anomaly / figure jumping




So… I did 400 miles in the Range Rover over the weekend. It didn't miss a beat.
There are, however, a few odd things going on. I suspect they are Land Rover “anomalies”, but I wanted to run them by the Forum in case anyone has any ideas and to flag it for others.

The Field "Number of demanded DPF regens” is usually reliable and accurate. I have watched it for 5 years!.
Recently, on two occasions, the figure has jumped inexplicably.
Firstly from 151 to 240 then from 243 to 453 while regenning (mileage also highlighted)
It has never done this before.

There is no problem with the car (it is running great) and the DPF Sooting, while slightly more than usual is all close-ish to perameters. TBH few other people will ever notice this.

My questions are:
1) Should I just this down to being a Land Rover-esque glitch and ignore?
2) Do you have any ideas?
3) Would it be worth flashing the ECU at some point in the future?
4) Should l just shut up and drive it?

I have always read your DPF related posts and respected your opinions.
We all know how addictive DPF watching can become, but I view keeping an eye on soot levels as good practice.
So,
1) Yes
2) No
3) Definitely NO
4) Yes.

England 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Santorini Black

I can beat that!
In June my Demanded Regens jumped from 990 to 1356.
Regens have been happening normally for the last 5000 miles.
I've had the car less than a year. 125,000 miles 2012 4.4 tdv8.
No problems at all other than the P040D-00(2F) which I will get round to doing one day.
I'm not too worried about it.

This is helpful, thank you! If anyone else sees jumps like this, it would be good to know as well.

Well, this is getting interesting!
After a 400 mile round trip to Bradford up the M1, the Demanded Regens has jumped from 1356 to, wait for it, 2489.
Is this a record?
Will it get to five figures?
Is something Bad about to happen?
Will keep you posted...

the only time my demanded regens went up by over 1000 a day (sometimes) was when I had my inlet manifold replaced (was cracked, leading to RP) and they cracked the thermostat housing which made the engine run too cold (fan was on most of the time - I could hear it.) to complete a regen sequence.

These engines run cool anyhow and so it was unable to get to temp a lot of the time to complete a full regen.

Replaced the housing and all has been good for over 3 years and 1,000s of miles.

I can only assume that if some parameter is preventing a regen then the ECU just keeps on putting in the request until the parmeters are met. This may be an anomoly of the GAP tool as number of completed regenerations should be the reliable figure rather than demands. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
