Have I "bricked" my sat nav ?

Hi Folks.

I recently bought a UK 2014 L405 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography. My second after selling an almost identical spec car but a 5.0 SC V8 a couple of years ago. something I still regret.

As I did with my last L405, I decided to update the maps and bought the 2020 maps from Here maps and not eBay. During the update, it got stuck on 40% and eventually came up with an error message. Here maps sent me a replacement USB stick, which did the same. They say there's nothing else they can do and are giving me a refund.

I now have a sat nav system that displays the message "updating map data" and is looking for the USB stick. I tried unplugging the battery for an hour but when I reconnected I got the same error. Is my sat nav toast or is there a way to recover it? I was thinking maybe a firmware update. Is this something an Indie could do?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Pav

I guess you could try a different supplier ?

I had this with one I bought off eBay, but the second USB stick they sent seemed to do the trick.

Maybe find someone local with a USB they've used that works (maybe not latest maps...but whatever they have). If the stick worked in one 405 it should work in another. You're a bit far from South Somerset ... but if you're passing through, I've got one you could try. Mike - MPx

hi don't want to be a party pooper but my USB updates came vin locked, so I imagine they all are. I must admit it took over an half an hour to get to 5% updated, and I never stoped the car at all.
I guess if all else fails surely MD will be able to help.

yup. I have to enter a code. I bought a new USB stick / code for the new L405. I didn't use the one for the old one as I no longer have it.
