Suspension puzzle


Came out to the car to find the front suspension on the bump stops. Never had any previous issues with the suspension. Jacked the car up and both air bags look in good condition with no cracks etc. when I try and raise the suspension, I get the suspension in extended mode message on the dash, and the rear end raises up into what looks like extended mode, but there are no sounds of leaking air anywhere.
The iid tool is not showing any faults on the system . The only anomaly I can find is that the rear LH height sensor is showing nearly 4volts whereas the other corners are around 1 to 1.5 volts.
The suspension control switches don’t seem to operate as they should. I lowered the rear end using the iid tool deflate function, and when I started the engine the rear raised back up on its own without any input from the controls to extended height, the compressor is pressuring the system ok and the compressor exhaust can be blown through easily so is not blocked.
Mileage is 98000
Completely baffled by all this any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Faulty sensor would be my guess. What are the actual readings of the 4 corners on the GAP IID live values? Also look at what the 4x4 screen is indicating for where it thinks the wheels are in relation to where they actualy are. The Voltage anomoly is also an indication of a fault. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Thanks for the quick response. I’m away from home at the moment , so will check the live values when back,hoping it is just a sensor issue.

I’d just look at the 4x4 screen as a first pass, as it will show you where the car thinks it is. Then have that in mind when you are then looking at the GAP readings to see if they concur.

As suggested by others above, a faulty height sensor is the most likely culprit.

But, the sensor could be good, and it's just a broken height sensor actuator rod. Been there....

Thanks Jon. I’ve checked , and all rods are connected, and wiring to each sensor plug looks in good condition. I think my next move will be to remove each sensor rod and move them throughout their range whilst checking the corresponding voltage with the iid tool.

Sounds like a good plan.

Also check the supply voltage to each height sensor with your IID. On a faulty sensor I've seen variations from the expected 5.0V reported back.

Just an update in case anyone has similar problems. The symptoms were , front end on the bump stops and rear end going into extended height. It turned out to be a fault with the LH front height sensor. When I tested it there was a constant reading of around 0.650 v with no variation when the arm was moved throughout its range. As soon as I unplugged the offending sensor, a suspension fault warning came up on the dash, but the fatty levelled itself out and appears normal, even with the sensor disconnected! New sensor now ordered.
