Breakdown cover and older cars

Been doing some price comparisons online for breakdown cover with home start, roadside and recovery for our 2003 TD6 (only does 2000 miles a year) and the prices varying hugely.

Never usually the read small print (I know, I know……) but this time I did to see why prices varied so much.

Didn’t realise some breakdown cover providers exclude vehicles over 14 years old, and most over 20 years ago

Who are you guys with older RR’s using for cover please?

AutoAid. I have just renewed for £85 (inc. older car surcharge) but it doesn't cover Europe.

For Europe I buy a separate policy through MSM Insurance. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green

Everyone has their favourite but I’ve always been with Green Flag purely because I tow a caravan & they cover “you” rather than a specific vehicle. Not sure what their t&c’s are. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

If it's over 20 years, you can also benefit from classic car insurance, instead of regular old insurance. Footman James or Adrian Flux specialise in it and have breakdown products to suit. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Another vote for AutoAid. Recovery, Homestart, spouse cover etc all for the cost of AA basic cover. Used them once so far (for my TVR), very efficient and knowledgeable chap arrived within the hour. 2011MY 4.4TDV8 Autobiography Baltic Blue

I'm with GEM Motor assist, pretty reasonable price and the covers not that bad. plus I get 20% discount through work scheme. and the price never change even with a call out or two.
When my alternator went the sent out a low loader (i think) because they could'nt tow it home

I tried the AA once and despite telling the year of the vehicle and model they took my money. Only when the policy arrived did I spot the bit about not covering older cars. So, I would not have been covered in the case of a breakdown despite them knowing the vehicle was outside the cover limits. Took an age to get the money refunded.
Now with AutoAid and have been for a number of years.
