England 2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue
Project Fatty Onroader 5.0 Supercharged

Following on from -PROJECT FATTY OFFROADER- Comes Project Fatty Onroader...

For various medical issues I won't bore you with here our "plan A" of buying a boat and spending the winters cruising the Caribbean only lasted a couple of years before we had to cash in and start thinking of "plan B"

Part of plan A was to get rid of Fatty Offroader as whatever car I had would have to sit on the drive for 6 months and still work at the end of it, this was probably a bit too much to ask a, then, 16 year old heavily modified fatty..!! so it was sold on and a Lexus LS430 was used, this, of course, sat for six month, turned the battery isolater I had fitted, and sprang into life with no faults or issues, passed MOT's with no advisories and just worked as it should.... BUT.... charisma it lacks, in bucketloads...!!!

I did consider replacing it with a Bentley Flying Spur but they don't do a towbar for them and I need to pull a trailer as part of plan A was downsizing and we went for location location and got a rather tired 1950's house which needs a lot of updating, seeing as I know my way around a brick aswell as a car I'm doing it and sticking a 2.4mtr length of CLS in a Bentley just didn't seem right....

So the next choice was a Supercharged fatty... as some of you will have seen I did a poll on here on whether to buy the cheapest available and refresh it or buy the latest best and do a little bit of work... well as usual it ended up somewhere in the middle...

Meet the new (at the moment) drive ornament...

It's a 2012 model year, reg 11/11 Range Rover 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged in Ipanema Sand with a jet/jet/jet interior (that's jet seats, jet inserts and jet headlining) Just what I was after colour wise and a bonus with the uncommon jet headlining.

It's the Autobiography and has been well specced up with locking rear diff, vision assist pack, ugly kid glass, 4 zone climate and the upgraded Logic 7 ICE

It was quite a distance from us, the owner claimed it was mint but it did live on an "Equestrian centre" and we all know that keeping horses is not the cleanest hobby... anyway a price was agreed so we went to have a look at it yesterday..

Not quite as advertised, all four wheels (diamond turned style19) are badly corroded, the aircon isn't blowing cold, the PDC isn't working and one reversing light has lost it's cover...

Further negotiations were made and a price I was happy with was agreed on.

So I now own a 2012 model year fatty, with 75,000 miles, FSH and a receipt for the replacement of the timing chain, uprated guides, new water pump, injectors etc. The bodywork is extremely good, the interior has a few small marks which are fixable.

It cost the same as the cheapest Supercharged currently on Autotrader plus the cost of the timing chain replacement from a non franchised dealer, and it has less than half the miles...

All in all I'm happy, it needs a very good deep clean and a few issues sorting.

The drive home was enjoyable, the fatty grin came back very quickly which turned into a laugh when the right pedal was sunk into the deep pile mats....

I usually drive fairly respectably but I can confirm it will spin all four wheels if you give it the beans.... Rolling Eyes

A couple more pics, sorry they aren't very good, will put some detailed ones up later...

Weirdly it has wood trim instead of Piano Black which I much prefer, if anyone wants to swap trims, let me know.. Thumbs Up

I'll post updates etc here for those interested Pete

Thanks guys,

Craig I doubt I will ever do it again but you have to do it once, bit like the launch control on Debs old V6 Audi TT, that would spin all 4 but apparently you only get about 10 starts to a gearbox...!! Shocked Pete

I've had my 4.2 for over 7 years now. Gave it an "Italian tune up" to relieve the lockdown boredom the other day and had a weird light appear briefly on the dash. Turned out to be the DSC kicking in which has never happened under my ownership before! Shan't be doing that too often again but brought a massive grin to my face. Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)

Welcome back...... That looks tidy. Always liked that colour. You always end up with some jobs to do......unless you drop really lucky.

I’m a big fan of the TFT dash.

You tried the adaptive cruise yet?

I am sure you will be getting it back to “as new “ very soon.

When I bought B.B. I had the choice of 2, identical spec apart from the headlining in the one I bought which is Jet Black.
I can’t say why, but it just looked so good compared to the normal ivory one.

Happy motoring.

My good lady didn't get to drive it yesterday so we went for our daily walk up on top of the Yorkshire Wolds, our little village nestles at the bottom...

There is a B.O.A.T up there you can drive, we found one silver lining to this mess we are in, you can see for much further due to the reduced pollution...

There are quite a few axle twisters which has worked the suspension through it's range of movement which is always a good thing to do now and again...

A couple of arty shots..

Deb drove back, she had the grin to...!!!

Oh and I fixed the PDC, apparently there is a switch on the dash Embarassed Embarassed Pete
