Headlight wiper , out of solutions - need help!

Hi all, I’ve a 2003 with the headlight wipers, I’ve a battery drain issue and on searching the forum found multiple possible causes. I’ve changed the FSR and noted that people mention the wipers can be an issue. My wipers hadn’t been dispensing fluid for ages and I noted that the left (NS) one had stopped working .

I changed the motor with a scrappy replacement - no joy, I tested the replacement and the original and they both work with power directly. I then read that the NS wiper takes power from the pump and if that had failed that could be the issue . As I hadn’t had fluid for a while I thought I would change that too.

No joy , it moves a couple of inches when the right side is working but that’s it. It never does a full sweep and parks.

What’s next that I can try ? I’ve removed the fuse (28 ) and all that happens is it resets . But when activated doesn’t do a full sweep and stops midway again. Crying or Very sad 2003 Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

My advise would be to bin them both and get some lower headlight trims from an HSE which didn't get the wipers, they always give bother and are pretty much useless anyway... Thumbs Up Pete

Thanks - I’ve never seen the blanking plates.. I thought they all had wipers. Only thing I’m worried about by blanking them is that it’s an MOT failure isn’t it? I thought Bi-xenons had to have a cleaning system and if fitted it has to work 2003 Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

Your probably right but I bet not many MOT guys would notice..

This is from an HSE, no hole for the wiper...

Any car manufactured before September 1 2009 fitted with hid headlights does not require to have headlight washers so if the are missing, removed or not working they cannot fail a mot. ie they are not a testable item.
I would take Haylands advice and bin them and fit new finisher pieces.

I had the same problem and replaced the pump. It didn't fix the issue and was about to condemn the system and fit blanks.
Give it a last try by disconnecting and re-connecting the NS wiper's plug. Do it with ignition off first. Then, if this doesn't work try with the ignition on (can't recall which was the case with mine) I don't know how or why it worked and it has been working perfectly for two years now; wipers washer pump and all...

Does anyone know the part number for the pump ( that provides power to the headlight wiper washers ), this is for my 2004 car, might as well try and fix it, before I go on the hunt for some headlight trims at the breakers yards Smile

Exactly Thumbs Up just like several other parts, for example the flexible fuel hose from the main line to the injectors. I still haven't found the LR number but managed to source it from BMW...
