United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Baltic Blue
2017 SVA or 2019 5.0 SC AB

Narrowing my search for a L405.

Currently in a price range between 40-45k I can find a couple of 2017 SVA's that I like and a couple of 'standard' 2019 5.0 S/C Autobiography's all have all the goodies I want and especially the HUD so specs are pretty similar apart from model year changes and mileage is within 15k for them so negligible.

So choice I guess is 'extra' power or a newer model year. I've driven the SVA and love the extra rumble and I've also heard the 2017 is kind of a sweet spot with all the niggles sorted out. Leaning towards the 2017's but willing to hear peoples thoughts on whether I should go for the newer models? ----------- Current Garage --------------------

These are the two SVA's I'm considering:

This one is from a Main Dealer, Pentland in Dundee so comes with Approved Used Warranty etc and is around 5K cheaper than the other one. Downside for me is its 480 miles away!

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202405079460554

This one is much closer to me (30 miles) but is via an Independent dealer SPP (Select Performance and Prestige Ltd)

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202406100604227

They are similar specs although colours external and internal are different so not exactly apples with apples but I like both of them. The one nearer me looks like it might be in slightly better condition bodywork wise but that might just be the lighter colour showing up better in pictures. I can't get to see the nearer one until the weekend and the Dundee dealer seems keen to do a deal as I think its month end coming up Very Happy and seems a good price to me so expect it will get snapped up soon.

Anyone had experience with either of these sellers or want to pitch in opinions? ----------- Current Garage --------------------

My thoughts would be as follows;

Be aware scottish cars do suffer from greater salt expose more than cars from down south. Nothing against my scottish friends!!!

Personally i would go look at the one at Select, also its a premium svo pallette colour so rarer and looks nice, i might be biased though!! Only thing I would say is that its missing the rear screens off the seats, so you need to find those. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Good luck and have fun

They are both great looking vehicles and I love both colour schemes. The only thing I noticed is the second one has no rear badges - it may have just been de-badged but worth a slightly closer inspection of the rear just incase there has been any accident damage at some point. I believe you need to give LR a chassis number/ VIN to order a replacement SV badge. 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

Thanks @DrF & @ jez000

Some good points. Had heard about the possible corrosion issue with Scottish lived cars but had forgotten that - MOT reports don't have any advisories on this (which I have with my Southern lived L322) so hopefully all good for the moment but does anyone else have experience of this?

I've pulled the Topix spec sheets for both cars and both have SVO Premium paint so that says but agree the lighter blue (or Grey as they call it) might be more rare. The screens are available for the SPP car in a box with the car. Apparently the previous owners son had long legs and they got in the way so they were taken out. Personally I have no use for them but would probably put them back in as although they are big IMHO I think it looks better with them than with the hole. That's actually a plus for the Dundee car as it doesn't have screens and looks much neater as a result in the back.

I spotted the lack of badges on the rear and just assumed it was a delete option when new? Hadn't thought it could be an accident repair. I did a Car Vertical search and that hasn't shown any crash damage reports but I guess that is no guarantee assume they only show there if an insurance claim?

The Dundee car also has silver flappy paddles when I thought SVA's had red ones. No big deal but maybe that was a delete option when new or someone has changed them. ----------- Current Garage --------------------

Badges were a delete option, and you can just get new covers for speakers without screen option in rear seats if you didn't want to use them. link below

Sorry, its scuderia parts

I use it to find parts numbers and prices, try duckworths LR for a better price if you want parts though.

Agree with Dan, I'd go with the SVA over a std SC - already made that choice! After that, condition is all, and taste of course. My pref is the one at SPP. For that money vs the other, they should put the screens back in. I agree that they're just in the way really so a decent cover would be better in many respects but may affect resale if you're bothered by that. Mike - MPx

I'm looking at similar models and have had the same thoughts but am veering towards a 2018/19 P525 for the better infotainment, seats & lights.

Lots of cars from Main Dealers, but the mileages are alway a tad high e.g 63K - anyone consider 63k high from a main dealer ?

Mine was 52k when I bought it from a MD at 4 years old and 84k now. While I'm no fan of strato milages - these cars are best used for distance motoring and I always fear micro miles means a run to the shops and back twice a week. That sort of use wont do any car any good - indeed a very good reason to get an EV in the fleet. Mike - MPx

So a bit of a long update on the search in case anyone is interested, if not TDLR: Still looking!

Went to see the SPP one nearer to me today. Absolutely beautiful colour scheme in the flesh and in a pretty good condition for a 7 year old car - the engine bay was the cleanest I think I've ever seen on a 7 year old car that's not a show car. Assume it must have had to steam clean or something at some point or a real good valet.

But not quite as immaculate as the dealer suggested and given I think they are asking about 4k premium for it. There were a few little chips and scratches but no more than you would expect for the age but was surprised to see them as its obviously had a valet and would have thought they would have sorted those but not a deal breaker.

What was an issue for me given the price is one of the side steps was reporting an error and wouldn't un-deploy saying there was an obstruction, which I couldn't see any. Dealer said that's common if they aren't used regularly and just needs a greasing?? But if its such a perfect car I don't expect to find the when I view it. Likewise only one of the keys worked could just be batteries but could be something else. Just little things but makes you worry.

Probably the biggest issue was the boot was quite badly scratched on the plastics and so was the rear window on the privacy glass film to the extent you could see it when you looked in the rearview mirror. Guess a previous owner had a dog in there. Dealer said they would sort the privacy glass and I could live with the plastics scratches as we have dogs as well so scratches happen but at the price point I'm not sure this is all great.

Rear infotainment screens were on the back seat awaiting refitting so unable to test, everything else on the car seemed to work ok from what I could tell, a/c was nice and cool and tyres were good and good quality.

All in all was it down around 40k-42k in price I probably would have bought it subject to the side steps being fixed and the rear glass being repaired but at nearly 45k I don't think it was perfect enough to warrant that price IMHO

What was also interesting in doing the test drive was because this was mostly small country lanes and some country tracks we really noticed the stiffer suspension setup in the SV. The previous one I've driven was mostly on regular roads and dual carriageways. It was not so bad to be a deal breaker but is making us wonder whether the non SV 5.0 s/c AB would be better for us as we do drive some smaller lanes and unmade roads fairly often as well and motorways and its not as if the 'standard' 5.0 s/c is a slouch! Also means for our budget we can move up to the 2018/19 models and not have the 3G mobile network switch-off issue I've just found out about for pre 2018 facelift cars.

For the Dundee car I think this is a much fairer price and its main dealer so comes with 1 year approved used warranty etc but I've been spooked with a lot of people telling me to beware with cars who've lived their lives in Scotland as corrosion could be an issue. 'Could' I think being the operative word offset I think with the approved used and the fact there are no reports on any of the MOT's...but Whistle Whistle Couple that with how far it is from me and I will be away on a business trip from Friday next week for a couple of weeks and it all goes into the too hard box. I got the impression the dealership is coming up to quarter end at end of June and wants to sell this car asap so probably could even negotiate some more, I suspect after next week they will just send it to auction?? If its still around when I'm back I might have another look but I suspect it will be gone one way or another.

So after my trip the search will continue later in July! ----------- Current Garage --------------------

I'd double check the warranty on a 2017 car from a MD, the proper warranties are only for cars Upto 7 years old (and 100,000 miles).
