Powered Tailgate Not Closing - Now Resolved

Picked up the replacement to my L322 5.0 SC today, an MY15 L405 SDV8 Autobiography, one immediate issue I have is the tailgate doesn’t power close when pressing either the button on the upper tailgate or key fob. Opening works perfectly with both parts fully opening, when trying to close I can hear a faint clicking behind the r/h trim panel (relay?) and three beeps.

I knew it had this issue when buying it (private sale) but am hoping it’s an easy fix - any ideas where I should start looking?

Thanks Thumbs Up

Button on the dash does the same thing as the key fob and upper tailgate button - tailgate opens but doesn’t close - just three beeps

Listening again this morning, as well as the three beeps there’s also a click from the upper tailgate latch mechanism when pressing the close button (all three options) so I wonder if there’s possibly an issue with that, although when closing the tailgate manually, it does latch & lock ok.

DrF I note you had a similar issue in the thread Stan linked above - don’t suppose you have any more detail on the sensors that were replaced?

Thanks all.

Are we allowed to know the solution please?

I have had this a few times now, then it cures itself for ages, then starts again and so on.

Ta Thumbs Up

The anti-trap sensors, integrated into the black trim on each side of the upper tailgate, are part no’s LR034417 and LR034419.

I’ll buy some & report back…

Had a quick look, they just pull out from the side of the tailgate when open, only secured with push fit clips -

This was a 405 rather than a 322, but the solution here fixed mine: https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic60938.html

Thanks Monkeyman, I tried that but no luck, although it’s my upper tailgate as well as lower that fail to close, I’m hoping the new upper tailgate sensors resolve it Rolling Eyes

Yep that’s right Stan, you can see the wire exiting the tailgate in my first photo, this runs down and into to a rubber square at the bottom of the trim that looks like some sort of bump stop. Not clear to me how it senses an object whilst closing but I’ve ordered the parts today and hopefully will sort the issue Rolling Eyes
