3.0 v6 engine fitment

I wonder if I can pick the forums brains? I'm so pleased with my Range Rover 4.4 tdv8 autobiography that I'm thinking of delving further into the landrover marque by adding a second car to my drive.
I have been offered a friend's lovely 2016 land rover discovery 4 HSE. This has engine failure. But I can obtain a 2020 engine having done 36,000miles to fit in it. But I'm unsure if this will fit as its out of a velar.
Can anyone help with any information as to its fitment??
Thanking you in anticipation. BYP.

Assuming it's an SDV6, you then need to check if the Disco 4 is Gen 1 or Gen 2 as the velar unit will definitely be a Gen 2. You cannot downgrade a Gen 2 to Gen 1 spec as the block is different due to the electronic oil pump fitted to the Gen 2 unit. The Gen 2 units are marked around the throttle body area with a Gen 2 label so should be quite obvious. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Thank you for your kind help on this subject.
Do you know if the turbos, injectors, sump are the same?
The disco I'm looking at has ad blue so I assume that it's Gen 2.

I'm no expert on the Disco 4 as I have a Gen 1 L494 SDV6 & a L405 SDV8, but looking at the parts catalogue the Disco could be Gen 1 or 2 depending on Vin/build date in 2016. Obviously the Velar would be Gen 2. The short block for a Gen 2 D4 & the velar are the same part number but the stripped engine is a different part no. As regards to the sump the part is not available other than buying a stripped engine so I cannot say whether they are the same or not!

If the D4 is Gen 2 then I would say you certainly have a bottom end from the Velar that you could use to rebuild the D4 (assume it has a snapped crank or spun bearings), dont ask me asbout spun bearings in my SDV8, see:-

Here's the links to the D4 & Velar parts catalogues: -

Unfortunately my Topix access has expired so I am limited in information that I can pull together!

Hopefully this will give you a bit of help!
