Coming back to the fullfat fold

Afternoon all,

After stupidly selling my L322 2 years ago (in a ill thought out tantrum wwhen the tax renewal came through Rolling with laughter ) I am looking to buy another one. Can't decide between 3.6 and 4.4 though. Been to look at an initially tidy 4.4 today with good body work, service history etc but on a quick peak under neath is exhibiting an oil leak issue as shown in the pic.

Predominatly over the middle of the back of engine and the OSF suspension arm - is this likely to be the famous o ring issue or is it more a walk away issue? I appreciate hard to tell from just a picture but any advice appreciated or any advice on where I should look more specifically to determine the issue if I go for a second viewing. 2008 TDV8

Probably you will have to buy it first then find out otherwise are you happy to get agreement of the seller to book it in somewhere for investigation at your expense!

Chances are it's oil cooler rings unless history shows it's already been done. However there will be other opinions. Anyway it's a great choice to grab a Fatty again ( go for 4.4, I love mine ) RR owner

Doesn't look like it's dripping so could be anything ranging from a bit of filling spillage to a small seep, but it's not dumping itself all over the road at least and you've got 9 1/2 litres to play with.

Subframe looks well corroded through so you should get that protected soon as.

I assume you took the undertray off. If not there's another tell tale sign someone's been in there already for some reason.

No clue as to why the susp arm would be wet whilst all around it is realtively dry, odd one that, perhaps brake fluid leak ?

Anyway, nothing in the picture worth walking away for in my opinion. Fuji White / Jet 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

Deja vu!

I’ve just come back to the fold with a 2011 4.4 and had oil in the same place, I replaced the complete oil cooler and feed pipe o rings, also worth checking the coolant reservoir mine was black from the cooler itself leaking

If the seller will let you it’s possible to see the rear of the cooler and feed pipe by removing the pollen filter housing, plenty on here about it 1972 Series 3 full of character

Interesting comments re returning to fold! I sold my L322 a few months ago as barely use it ... am missing it & slightly browsing adverts!!

Of course, unsure whether I'd rather a L322 or L405 ...!!
