How much are you spending on your FFRR a year?

Thought I would start a thread about what people roughly (or in detail!) spend on owning and running their FFRR each year.

To start with I tallied up what my 07-09 3.6 TDV8 has cost me in total from purchase (I keep a list on my phone).

From Sept 22’ - October 24’, including the purchase price, tax x3, insurance x3 and maintenance it’s come to £14,110.

This year to date, tax and insurance has cost me £1,115. And maintance £2,109.

Hoping the maintance is a little less in the coming 12 months but these cars are complicated as you know. Despite some annoying issues, it’s been a joy to own and drive. 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

That's quite a number, what is it with the purchase price taken out?

It adds up quickly when you include tax and insurance. Let’s call that alone £3k over 3 years (just paid for the coming 12 months).

The big spends were £950 on a remap and diff oils with Bodsey, and have just spent £1,580 on new tyres, a wheel refurb and new front discs and pads.

Without the purchase price and tax and insurance it’s cost me around £4k to maintain over 2 years.

I try to keep on top of everything and only use oem (or better) parts.

The only thing not in my calculations is depreciation, not that there’s any plans to sell! 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

I’ll add mine up but suspect I’ll beat that by some margin. I think £2k per year is very good, bearing in mind some of that is cosmetic.

When I recently traded in my 2012 L320 Supercharged (60,000 miles) in July this year against my L405 purchase I added up the maintenance and repairs for five and a half years of ownership. This excluded tax and insurance. The figure was virtually spot on £5500, i.e. £1k per annum. This seemed very reasonable given the size, complexity and performance of the vehicle. "There is no replacement for displacement" - W O Bentley

I budget for £3k pa, tax, insurance and maintenance. That’s for <10k miles per year.

I have a spreadsheet of all costs but I don't look at it as even though I would know the exact 'cost' of L322 ownership it would never exceded the 'value' of of L322 ownership. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Dare I ask why you keep the speed-sheet?! I am just interested in getting some context as far as yearly maintance costs go for people. Guessing if the emotional value didn’t outweigh the costs - we’d all sell! 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

The latest baseline cost for my MY16 L405 TDV6 was £3,500 per year.

LR Extended Warranty with Assistance £1740
LR InControl and Secure £260
Tax £335
Insurance £550
Service & MOT £600

This didn't cover wear and tear items like tyres. brakes etc.

Recently I experienced items that were breaking/failing that weren't covered under LR warranty. For example, when the front camera stopped working LR diagnosed the fault as water ingress. A brake actuator was diagnosed as probable impact.

This year I estimated the car needed another £3,500 on maintenance and cosmetic items.

Replace front camera £600
4 tyres £1,250
4 x wheel refurbs £500
Replace A & D pillars due to clouding £500
Gearbox Service £600
Condensation in a light cluster (minor on MOT)
Condensation in a front light cluster (minor on MOT)

Some might consider the above work unnecessary, as the car worked fine without the front camera, the scruffed wheels and cloudy pillars were cosmetic and I'm sure the tyres and gearbox would have been good for another year.

I px'd the L405 in September for a P550e

The baseline for the L460 is £2,100 as warranty an InControl are covered for the first three years.

Tax £590
Insurance £1000
Service & MOT £450 (pro rata 5yr service pack) 2024 P550e Autobiography
2016MY TDV6 Autobiography - Gone
2011MY 5.0 SC Autobiography Black - Gone
2005 TD6 Vogue - Gone

Servicing is no more expensive than any other large premium car esp if you can DIY. Repair costs could be zero one year and £10k the next. It's not worth thinking about IMO unless funds are tight and I wouldn't run one if I didn't know I could repair it whatever the cost ( within reason) or just buy somthing else if it was uneconomical to repair. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

~£1600 on new tyres
~£1000 on all round pads and disks
~£450 cam belt change
~£500 new alternator
~£700 insurance

~£xxx servicing
oh one good thing the recall for front knuckle was on JLR

Just had a look at mine and it's costing about £13k per year for everything and I'm doing about 15k miles a year so £0.87 per mile. £4.5k of that is insurance and ULEZ for living in central london. I'm not paying out on finance and depreciation is insignificant. When I cost up buying a £25k ULEZ compliant car (not a JLR product) with a £10k deposit it still works out more expensive even if I don't factor in depreciation which is significant. These figures I like as I can just keep it going..... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Yes, L405 SDV8, now gone. TBH though I used the same rule of thumb when had an L322 3.6. Current P525 starts at that, but let’s see!
