Tyre advice please

Evening all,

I think I know the answer but just wanted some advice please, my daughters Discovery Sport needed some new front tyres urgently to get it through an MOT. Existing tyres were x4 Michelin, to get it through MOT I needed x2 new fronts,

I could only get x2 Pirelli P Zeros LR fitment, they didn't have 4 available, so have had those fitted, the garage said that I should have x4 otherwise will cause drivetrain issues.

Is this sales speak or should i get it booked in for x2 new rears to match the fronts please? I intend to get the rears replaced at some point soon so will match them, but just wondered if there is any urgency?

Any advice would be appreciated please.

My understanding is that different tyres/tread patterns will have very slightly different rolling circumferences, construction and deformation characteristics. On a 2WD car as long as tyres match on each axel you're unlikely to have any trouble...but on a 4WD you'll be putting some extra strain on the drivetrain. All very marginal, so not something to loose sleep over but probably wise to get them swapped out soonish as you plan Dan. If you leave it too long the older ones will have lost a mm or two in wear so will not balance with the new ones anyway. Mike - MPx
