It has a "smart" alternator which only puts out what is needed...

Hi thanks for reply I wasn’t sure as my previous batteries which I think had been in the car for last 10 years so obviously needed replacing would always show 14.4 at idle so I was under impression the new ones would show the same also I thought that in order for all ecus in car to operate probably and to not not get any faults etc… that the voltage had to be constant over 13.5 atleast with no drops in the voltage or that would cause certain ecus to give faults. A battery tester can tell the difference with a "smart" alternator to give you a good indication. A home test you can do is to turn a load of items on (e.g. heated screens, seats, climate on max etc) and check the voltage is higher than at idle.

Run the car and turn loads of electrical stuff on, does the voltage drop and stay dropped?

Hi Craig thanks for reply it’s strange really that previous old batteries that were like 10 years old lol original Jaguar Land Rover batteries would be at 14.4 with car at idle when I checked with Gap tool but my 2 new Bosch batteries are only showing a maximum of 13.5v at idle is this to do with the smart charge system? As they are new batteries they can hold a charge better and don’t need as high a voltage. Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 SVO Stying Pack
