Low voltage 13.2 at idle after new batteries installed

Hi guys installed 2 new batteries today right spec for both and did the new battery install with Gap tool also but strangely when I check before after a good run in car with gap tool the battery voltage at tickover was only 13.2 V any ideas possible faulty alternator? I took these readings at tickover also are they normal.
Cheers

It has a "smart" alternator which only puts out what is needed...

Mine fluctuates between low 12's to high 14's

I think you will find they will be OK and there is nothing to do.... Thumbs Up Pete

Hi thanks for reply I wasn’t sure as my previous batteries which I think had been in the car for last 10 years so obviously needed replacing would always show 14.4 at idle so I was under impression the new ones would show the same also I thought that in order for all ecus in car to operate probably and to not not get any faults etc… that the voltage had to be constant over 13.5 atleast with no drops in the voltage or that would cause certain ecus to give faults. Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 SVO Stying Pack

A battery tester can tell the difference with a "smart" alternator to give you a good indication. A home test you can do is to turn a load of items on (e.g. heated screens, seats, climate on max etc) and check the voltage is higher than at idle.

Interestingly, I've seen these type systems on Mercedes as far back as 2006. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Run the car and turn loads of electrical stuff on, does the voltage drop and stay dropped?
Turning lots of electrical items on should make the volts shown dip for a short period then stabilise and, as you rightly suggest, should be closer to 14,4v usually... If it doesn't then it needs further investigation sir... Thumbs Up

Hi Craig thanks for reply it’s strange really that previous old batteries that were like 10 years old lol original Jaguar Land Rover batteries would be at 14.4 with car at idle when I checked with Gap tool but my 2 new Bosch batteries are only showing a maximum of 13.5v at idle is this to do with the smart charge system? As they are new batteries they can hold a charge better and don’t need as high a voltage. Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 SVO Stying Pack

It could be, but your guessing until you do a real good draw down test sir 👍
