Looking to change my 2017 RR autobiography

Bought the car in 2021 for £42k and was surprised that the px was only £19k. Love the car but due to not constantly doing long journeys oil dilution worries spoil my enjoyment. I have a diesel V8 4.4. Tried yesterday the Sport SVR - phenomenal sound and engine but lacks the feeling for quality and comfort in the full fat. Surprised that the 2016 Svr was worth £12k more than my car- although my 2017 car was more expensive when originally bought. Looking to get a petrol full fat - don’t want to spend more than £40k ( that includes my px) and want a Land Rover warranty. Surprised how many non franchised dealers refuse to get their cars have a Land Rover checks so that I can get get a Land Rover warranty. I know the checks are £500 and they refuse to do even if we negotiate the cost. My question is what petrol engine should I go for ? Thanks

I had an SVR and I can tell you they are a superb car which I can recommend not quite as luxurious as the AB but the drama makes up for that. The 5.0 supercharged is a lovely engine. overfinch modified

Thanks for that. Yes the SVR is one hell of a car, just felt I enjoyed the comfort more in the RR. I will look for a 5sc.

Are you going to sell yours privately or is it a lot less hassle to trade in and take the hit? Current yokes

The px price is more than we buy any car. Have not tried motorway . Although car A1 I don’t fancy private sale. Saw a lovely 5sc car today. Not Land Rover dealership and therefore if I need the warranty I would have to pay for the checks at Land Rover. Dealer said it is robbery- but said as 5sc he could not give the RAC warranty. Did not give be confidence to buy .

That sounds like a good px price to me. My 2015 A/B was traded into main dealer for sub £13k.

If looking for a 5.0 S/C in a specific colour and interior, PM me. I can probably source you one with spare change for you to get it LR checked with a LR warranty. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Are you serious about a 13K trade in??? Christ those cars are making 30k-50k in Ireland. We get screwed with VRT, Vat, customs and Nox charges when we import but Jesus it'd still be cheaper for me to buy off a forum member knowing a car was loved and bring it back here and pay the government their cut.

Ill have to seriously consider doing this in the next year or so if I decide to take the L405 plunge Current yokes

I think the really sad reality is that the trade market is only paying around £15K for a 16/66 plate L405 Autobiography right now, and that's assuming only 60K miles and immaculate condition.

If you've been offered £19K as a part-ex, that seems (to me) to be a pretty good deal, given the current trade values of 7 to 8-year-old L405's.

The *total* flip side of this however, is that the same car on a dealers' forecourt would be £28 - £30K, a quick AutoTrader search will quickly back this up. To me, this is more than greedy - In fact, it's frankly an obscene amount of mark up by the trade boys, although I suspect they might be potentially stuck with stock they bought a few months back (although that's being generous TBH...)

You may actually get more by selling your car privately, may well be worth a punt?

Ouch, that makes for dismal reading as a prospective owner too. I would agree with the comments re prices being all over the place, though, I have had a few interesting discussions since I am not in a hurry.

However, I hope that you will forgive me another comment from the other side of the fence, in relation to your aversion to a private sale. Having had 4 Disco 3s and 4s, and with a RR itch that might be a FF or RRS, I'd far rather buy off a forum member than a dealer. Most of the cars that I taken a look at have a FSH from LR which means only A/B services noted. I'm lucky that I have a couple of very good indies that I have used in the past for my vehicles, and have asked them to flag if any of their clients are looking to switch out. Their approval, or that of a forum member, is more meaningful than that of a dealership.
