Restricted Performance AND Suspension Fault?

Hey all,

Of late I've had the dreaded chime + usual array of accompanying warnings = limp mode. Often in lovely places, like joining the M42.

When I restart the engine, it always says "confirm required suspension height."

My theory is that this is because the car was in an 'in between' position just prior to stopping. i.e. not in 'normal' but in a slightly more aerodynamic pose?

So I might be correct that this is not a suspension fault?

But today, the 'restricted performance' was on immediately after startup, but with no limp mode.
This has happened previously too.

Am I being subjected to two simultaneous faults somehow?

Thanks everyone!

Without the codes being read could be anything. Air suspension failing? I have an intermittent restricted performance for water in fuel ( again you need the codes read to identify this as just gives a restricted performance yellow warning symbol) You can get a cheap reader to identify faults or the gap IID that lets you do so much more. 2011 L322 Autobography - a lot of bells and some of the whistles...owner with no idea!

First thing is to get the codes read. And if you haven’t already, get yourself an IID tool.

Sorry yes- should've done this before.

From Carly OBD:

<'all minor issues'>

RLM (Ride Level Ctrl Module) = U0416 - invalid data rec'd
ABS Control module = U0401 - invalid data rec'd (engine control module)
BCM (body control module) = B1B01 - key transponder
(interesting as me leaving the vehicle with the key in my pocket the other day sent everything haywire)
PCM (powertrain control module) = P023D - manifold absolute pressure - turbocharger/supercharger boost sensor A correlation
and P123B Turbo charger boost control A perf

You might want to check the front wiring to the suspension uprights and the hoses to the intercooler, a rip in these will give these errors, looking at the codes the intercooler hoses would be a good starting point.

Thanks Will.

" check the front wiring to the suspension uprights" - any info available on how to do this?

I checked hoses; but hard to check them all the way around without decoupling? Nick R

Hi Nick,
the wiring for the top of the suspension tower is easily checked, under the bonnet, on top of the suspension are 2 wires, they go brittle over time and break. new wires are available as part no.
LR032839.
The hoses are also easily removed, a 7mm socket to loosen the hose clip and you can extract the hose to check it, the break frequently under the protective sleeve, the rocking action of the engine creates a weak point that eventually causes the hose to have a small tear that only opens up under load. When you take the hoses off make sure nothing falls into the engine of intercooler, not a good thing to do.
Replacement can be either silicone hoses or LR originals.
