Coolant loss

Afternoon all,

Just got our 3.6 TDV8 back from having the sills welded but now the old girl has just told me the coolant level is low. I topped it up hot (The level was a bit over an inch below the lower cold fill line). The warning came on again about 100 miles later last night, and a similar amount more was added to the tank by my wife who was driving it.
This morning I took a quick look under the front of the car and could see a coolant drip from the front skid plate on the nearside. It is almost exactly in line with the power steering reservoir. Would that give you chaps an idea as to the likely culprit for the leak?

BTW, the level cold is currently half an inch over the lower fill line.

Many thanks in advance!

J

I’m going to bite the bullet and have a rummage under the car tomorrow to see if I can locate the source of coolant leak.

Assuming I locate and fix said leak, how can I ensure that I flush out ALL the remaining coolant? I hadn’t realised that so much remains in the system during a normal drain, and now I’ve bought new I really don’t want to mix different brands (And the colour may not be aesthetically pleasing!😄)

Will flushing with constant running water do the trick eventually, or could I do a couple of water-only fill and drain cycles with engine idling each time?

Hi bud had exactly the same, I would top up the coolent bottle and drive it without any problems, leave it overnight and levels would drop. Took it garage and they pointed to pipe in wing . I'm assuming drivers side near the bottle. Goodluck

Hey,

Thank you for taking the time to reply! I think I’ve located the source to the cluster of stuff around the heater control valve on the nearside wing. 2018 L405 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography
