3.6 TDV8 intercooler pipe split / oil residue found

Hi All,

I’m looking for some advice / unsubstantiated opinions, so hope this is the right place to ask!

I noticed some greyish smoke when accelerating so had a look at the top pipes to the intercooler and found a large split. On replacing the pipes I noted a fair amount of oil residue, and am still getting a bit of smoke when putting the boot in.

I’m wondering if the split may have pulled through some oil which is now being burnt off gradually, or if my turbo seals are lunched and I’m due a £2,800 turbo replacement bill for xmas..?

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Jimbo

One of the issues with a split IC hose is that the ECU requests more pressure from the turbo's as the boost is lost which can cause the turbo's to overspin and eat the bearings. Grey smoke is oil condensing in the exhaust which is likley from the exhaust side turbo seals. If it was pulling oil through the inatke it would be burning in the cylinders and cause blue smoke. I'd get the turbo's inspected and drive with a light right foot in the meantime. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
