United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Zermatt Silver
“Gearbox Fault”

This flagged up this morning. 2012 TDV8 with 78000 miles. The knob comes up and turns fine, it just stays in Park when an alternate gear is selected, which then flashes red on the selector. No mechanical sounds or any indication of internal movement whatsoever. Fresh battery six months ago, gearbox oil changed about a year ago.

I had this six months or so ago resulting in the release cable (the one under the cup holder) being replaced. First port of call is to pull the cup holder and reset the cable.

Second is a hard reset (disconnect the battery presumably - which terminal)?

Third is RAC to trailer it to the specialist, which is where it will be going anyway if I can get it into drive.

Any other ideas please? 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

Mine did it once, several years ago and I found that by switching to low ratio and back a couple of times cleared it.
It hasn’t happened again since.

Thanks for the link.

I used the secret fourth option in the end. Leave it for the day and go out. I tried it this evening and all is back to normal. From reading the link, I suspect it may be condensation on a contact as the garage was cold and it was relatively mild outside. So much so, the other car instantly misted up on the outside as I drove it out.

Funny as it shares the garage with the BMW, which also has the ZF8 and seems to work every time. Whistle 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster
