Sorry to hear that Martyn. You must be devastated. Hope you can find the cause and share what might have happened. |

Ouch..!! Deepest commiserations. That doesn't sound good, did you have to turn it off or did it stop on it's own..? Pete

Condolences Martyn, 4.4 tdV8 engine fails are very rare, so would be good if you find the cause and are able to share it with us.

Could that be turbos eaten themselves and caused the mess? Running on fuelled by its own oil? Especially as it started again and moved under its own power? |

I'd guess at sub-£10k as a non-runner.

Sounds like one of the Turbos has gone and it’s running on on its own oil. If it still turns over, starts and runs then it’s not seized and very unlikely there is a hole in the block - it may not be that bad. We have tractors here with turbocharged 7.5 litre engines that have had similar failures and a replacement turbo at £800 sorted the issue - it was merely the bearings that had gone causing massive oil consumption and horrendous running. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17 |

There seems to be quite a few SDV8 engine failures appearing on the L405 Facebook groups these days
