2013 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Aintree Green

Well, I've got the car back on the drive and gave it a good clean and chucked it on ebay.

I don't think I'm unreasonable in my price given someone with experience could swap the engine and still end up with a car a few quid cheaper. 2013 FFRR Vogue SE

SDV8 in my 2018 AB failed after only 40 k. miles. All services done as required. Don’t know what caused the damage, symptoms were knocking noise and metal shavings in the oil.

May guess is its oil dilution, turbo's spin at a very high speed, they need the correct oil wedge and dilution is not a Turbo's friend.
Would be interesting to compare failure rates compared with pre DPF engines.
Some owners it seems, just change the oil once per year.

And didn't JLR change the software on SDV8 so oil service command (dilution) was changed from 7% to 10% dilution, thats almost a 50% change on the previous limit!!!! Of course done to try and reduce complaints of customers receiving frequent oil service commands? 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

The oil was changed on my car literally the week before so I doubt it was oil dilution in this case unless I had a dodgy injector or something. 2013 FFRR Vogue SE

So, hopefully the vehicle is now sold, I'm just waiting for the buyer to get in touch.

Whilst removing my bits and pieces from the vehicle I plugged my IID tool in and read the codes, the only code logged for the engine was the below:

PCM-Engine TDV8

P0235-17 (2Cool Turbocharger/supercharger boost sensor A circuit - General electrical failure - circuit voltage above threshold

I'm not sure why this was moved to 'My Range Rover' but either way I thought I'd follow up on what was found by the new keeper.

- There was a pretty decent sized hole in the sump caused by a failed conrod.
- The gudgeon pin for the failed conrod was trying escape.
- The block was cracked.
- Both intercooler hoses had alot of oil in them.

It's certainly looking like turbo failure then lead to oil being fed into the inlets which then caused the engine to be hydrolocked?

The new keeper will be popping in a new engine along with a pair of turbos a few other bits, but at least it'll live on! 2013 FFRR Vogue SE
